Skunk2 Cam Gears
What's the scoop with these cam gears? Is the quality not on the same level as the Toda and Spoon cam gears? I noticed they are significantly cheaper, but for what reason?? I am interested in a set of cam gears, from searching I was not able to find any negative info on the Skunk2's. Any help would be appreciated, except a link the the H-T Search page, I already spent a good deal of time there to no avail.
Thanks in advance.

I've had mine for almost 2 years, haven't had any problems at all. My tuner did say that the marks were a little hard to see when I dyno'd, but other than that.......
this wont help much but if there cams are just as good as JUN/Toda why wouldnt there cam gears be

Another question.....how are the DC cam gears? they are a bit more pricey, but seem more accurate and easier to use....what do you think, are they worth it??? Or someone just fill us in on curing the skunk 2 problem lol

:sigh: don't buy dc cam gears. Don't buy AEM either.
Please, lets just let this thread sit and wait for an answer about the degree markings on the Skunk2's. At least JPrizzle and I want to know how this works for sure.

I wouldnt touch the DC's. looks like fisher price made those along with my OEM replacement radiator. Dont they only have three bolts also? I was told and seen story's about the AEM's slipping so thats why I picked the skunk2's. And most would change the bolts in the AEM's anyway. But I think the skunk2's are made very well and would get anything else unless it was Spoon or Toda 1st.gens.

they are all off, and all off by a different amount usually so me telling you to set
them in a certain place wont work. see for yourself.
What do you mean compare with the stock gears? do they had markings on them or something? or do you mean put them in the exact way the stock ones were and work from there? Sorry for being such a tardy n00b lol
this is Skunk2's second generation of cam gears. Long time honda tech.com veterans remember the first generation of cam gears which had the EXACT SAME PROBLEM. When I was formerly a moderator on that other honda board, I contacted Dave Hsu at Group A Autosports and suggested that they re-examine their TDC etchings as many members back then reported that there was an error...indeed there was. Dave, the professional that he is, openly admitted their error stating that on a couple of batches, the computerized etching program for the cam gears was misaligned and made steps to correct it. It appears that history has repeated itself and SKunk2/Group A should be told of this observation by many of the customers who discovered this again. They will correct it. I am sure of that.
Some of you are too young to know about the tylenol poisoning scare in the US 20 years ago but it is used in many prestigious university business schools as the way business wshould handle a crisis that affects the reputation and integrity of their product. Cliff notes: be honest and up front with your customer. acknowledge the problem openly. don't treat your customer as dummies as if they can't see through any cover-up or "going thru the motions" placation of complaints . then fix the problem and show that you did fix it. Skunk2 used this classic right approach with their 1st gen cam gears and initial problems with their stage 1 cam release/recall way back when (wear issues forced them to switch from a Turkish based billet core to the Japanese OEM chill cast core). Let's hope they haven't switched management.
BTW the W on my keyboard is missing for some reason....
