firt off, welcome, and we are glad to see more people defecting and joining the Prelude forum, and i personally am glad to see someone want to learn, rather than act like they already know it all. the H22 is in the VTEC model, it also has leather too i believe, and if i remember, it's only available in like 3 colors. i am not really sure about 4th gen specs. the engine will last a long time, as long as you don't beat on them. i abused mine severly, and at 75k miles, i rebuilt it (not entirely my fault, POS AEM bypass valve
) anyways, we can answer pretty much any question you will have about a Prelude. i do not know a lot about the 4th gen myself, but i can tell you just about anything about a 5th gen, and i can tell you anything you want to know about the H22. so, again i say welcome

ok is the prelude worth buying if its not a vtec motor... i dont want to do swaps..i just want a good strong base engine to start with. the one i looked at was not vtec but it was a 5speed which is rare around here in pittsburgh... the body was flawless and it had 123K on it..kinda high for me though..
*edit*also...for civics and integras there are like millions sites that have the specs of each engine and what year they came out of..the hybrid honda pages... can anyone give me some url's for preludes..thanks

depends how fast you wanna go, h23's better for boost, h22's not that good, if you plan on running more than average boost, you have to sleeve it cuz you cant run forged pistons cuz of the frm block, I have a 93 vtec, and its awesome, except for the fact that every thing is expensive for it, also, mine has 152K miles, drive it hard every day, and no one problem to date
actually, it doesn't matter about H22 better for boost than H23... that is false, they are both equally capable of supporting boost

I meant h23 can handle it better stock, cuz its got less compression..right? anyways, why is it that there arent so many turbo 4th gen lude vtec's?

H22A1 = Prelude VTEC = DOHC VTEC = 190hp, 158tq
H23A1 = Prelude Si = DOHC NON-VTEC 160hp, 155tq
Don't get a 96, just get a 95 and enjoy OBDI
95 Prelude VTEC is honestly the easiest and best choice for a solid base engine.

out all day today and NO dealers had any preludes of any year... im going to keep looking around... now i read the tag on the 123K mile one and it said H23a but the valve cover said nothing about vtec... im guessing this one is not vtec..its a '94, the valve cover looked like the integra LS valve cover , anyone?

H23A = non-vtec
H22A = VTEC
The only model with VTEC is the Prelude VTEC, that is the name. The S or Si are not vtec...
94 or 95 Prelude VTEC are your only smart choices...good luck they are fairly rare..
would you buy an si in a 5speed? or a vtec in an auto? im going to keep looking for a 5 speed vtec but this is tuff ****.
car shopping
car shopping
Si 5-speed is a fun car. And if you want to turbo it down the road for more power it's good. But out of the box the VTEC model will be better. Depends on your goals..
hey i found my needle in the hay stack everybody...
95 vtec 101k on odometer and its under 9grand... the color is red... id like to have black but oh well

anything i should look out for that is known to go bad in preludes? like i read in another post that the antenna is known to quit workin right and not go all the way down and be half way up at all times...anything like this can help me spot out any defects... i will definately be crawling underneath the car and i want a compression test done on it...
yes the 4th gen is sweet car...its the first car that came to mind as soon as i found out i had to start shopping around again
i wont rule out the si if this car falls through and if i cant find a vtec elsewhere, thanks alot...
and lastly...what did you mean by check the oil everytime i get gas?
cant wait to start talkin tech bout the preludes, thanks again fellas..

Check you oil every time you buy gas.
I am ******* serious.
I am ******* serious.
the other thing you might want to consider w/the SI is you can go SI/Vtec.
you get the SI's torque w/Vtec hp...as others might tell you though it's not as reliable as either of the motors themselves.

Haha... he's so right. VTEC eats that **** so fast as well as gas, but its soooo much fun!!
