Newbie Question
I just bought a 01 ITR and it has about 17000 miles on it. I was told that the engine wasnt even broken in. At what miles does it break in? Any way I just recently bought some Racing Hart c5 wheels, but I noticed that no one has wheels. The majority of ITR owners keep the stocks. Are 17" just too heavy? I am now selling them and going to buy performance parts. What bolt ons should I buy first. Parts and Brands?
With 17,000 mi's, the engine is definitely broken in.
As for parts, there are many good choices... you just gotta figure out what you want to do to the car and how much you want to spend on them.

Get used to driving the car before deciding to mod it, maybe spend some of that mod money on a driving school. you'll soon see that the R is an excellent car in stock form. And yes, I believe those 17" racing harts are way too heavy and will just hurt performance.
Glad to see your selling the wheels
. you would not regret just leaving the car stock for a while. The best thing you can do is learn about the car. Honda tech is the place for that

The above guys do have a point about getting to know the car first and keeping it stock for a while.
However, a set of H&R .75" drop or equivalent springs for the R (not Spoon), would be a beneficial first step.

fawk all these road racing *****, put a snail on that bitch.
well, maybe i could.....bolt on a 8" fabtech lift kit, or sell it and buy something with a bigblock.
An engine is broken in within the first couple thousand miles, however Honda engines often need a good 20,000 or so to fully loosen up.
In other words, your engine is just now reaching the point where it will run its best and make the most power (stock).

Since you just got the car id suggest just learning its capabilities and enjoying it stock for a while to get familiar. Then if you feel the need to start modding (and we all do), go with things like light flywheel, header with 2.5" collector and or 2.5" exhaust. Oh and if you are into performance, sell the 17" wheels for something 15 or 16 inch for lighter weight and better braking performance.
Engines are funny.
Kind of like people; you can never be entirely sure of what they're going to do. In some cases it may not hold true that the engine loosens up over the first 20,000 miles, but I've witnessed it enough times to know it's not a total load of horseshit.

I never bought into that line.. Ed's car made 165whp at 125k ...
and then 175 with a trick dual coil ignition Steve was testing out.
