Decibel level -> Stock ITR
Hi!
Does anybody in here know the decibel-level (exhaust) of a Stock 98-00 ITR!? Want to compare the sound level of an stock exhaust vs. a aftermarket exhaust.

I think it's well below 90 dB, maybe 80 dB? Assuming you have the stock intake, because the intake makes a lot of noise too....
Mine is around 90 dB because of the open intake. I have an JDM 4-1 with stock exhaust.. Luckily most racetracks here have a limit of 92 dB, so I'm 2 dB below the max. allowed.

Thanks!
Do you know at what rpm the db level is approx 81 !?
I think it is usual to measure the db-level @4000 rpm her in Norway on trackdays. Approx 1 meter behind and above the exhaust. - but i'll guess that is a international standard way of doing it maybe?

Most people that know where the noise sampling will happen will fasten a 'turn-down' (90 degree bend) of sorts on the exit of the exhaust system to direct the sound waves away from the dB meter.
If your testing is done in the pits while sitting still… I am not sure what can be done to help with the noise (if you have a problem).

Why would they measure the dB at 4000 rpm? That's stupid...
I think the ITR is the loudest at 8600 rpm..

So u don't think i have to be nerveous for db-testing in the future then

Info: I do not own a ITR yet - it's on its way - i am importing a ITR from Germany to Norway, where i live. It is a 99' model, black, lowered 25mm., and with SuperSprint 4-2-1 header. I will have it ready and registrated 2 january 2003.
I have never driven an ITR, only been a "co-driver". But I've wanted a ITR for over 2 years, cars are expensive in Norway
So i have been saving up money for it
I am looking really forward to getting my own ITR. I think i am more eager to get my car than kids are waiting for christmas. I almost can't sleep at night - and i am really restless
I hope it is worth the wait
Here in Norway, there are only about 20 ITR's all together I think. Very rare to se one "live", even on trackdays and car-shows and stuff like that.
I am planning to get a Apexi N1 exhaust. I think it looks very nice! - Have anyone tested the decibel-level on the Apexi N1? With and without the super silencer. The maximum decibel level allowed on track days here in Norway is normally 90 db@ 4.000 rpm.

Get the silencer and hope it passes... then before you head out on to the track.... pull the silencer out.

Yeah, and hope everyone is deaf by then....

Anyways - i'll be driving around with stock exhaust for a while... That would't scare the track-staff i guess...
I'll have to save up some cash before i can get a Apexi N1. Here in Norway i have to pay 33.347 US $ for my 99' ITR. I would guess that is quite a lot of cash for a used ITR, if that was in the US? How much does a new ITR cost approx!?
...norway is a expensive country for car-enthusiasts

It would be interesting to find out the db level inside the car with different setups. (i.e., stock, only with intake, i/h/e, i/h/test pipe/e, etc)
I've found that my current setup isn't that loud outside of the car except at WOT above ~5k, but inside the car, it is MUCH louder than with the stock exhaust, and even the intake made a large difference in db level. It would be interesting, maybe we can test every conceivable db level at the EXPO.

Inside-the-car spl was measured during a WOT third-gear pull in my car a couple of years ago.
Noise-related specs:
> Toda B cams
> AEM CAI
> JDM 4-1
> Stock cat-back
The reading was 93 dB with radio/HVAC off, meter held in the approximate center of the passenger compartment (above center console).

Wow. 93 db with stock catback. That's farily high! We're looking at a few more db with an aftermarket exhaust?
I'll volunteer to test/record at the Expo if someone can find me an spl meter
What was the Tanabe reading again, Pat? For some reason, I thought it was over 100!

Can't remember who had the record, but it was 117 dB!
