Default Choose a Turbo for X Factor

You guys may not have seen much of me lately, because I've been sick more in the last month than my entire life. I'm feeling a little better lately, and though I'm majorly stacked behind in work, I figured I'd post up something here to see what kinda responses I get. My car's in the body shop getting some minor work done, the motor is almost built completely. Originally, I was to use a GT3040 52 trim .82 a/r turbo, but they are on back order and I'm not in a position to really wait anymore. So, even though I have a turbo in mind for replacement, I wanna hear your suggestions.

The motor: B18c 84.5mm 9:1
Portflow'd head, spec'd to 9k rpm, JG Edlebrock intake
Lots of fuel and proper fuel management via Hondata.
XS Engineering Silvia core i/c, Inline Pro T3 flanged manifold. Maximum boost pressure set to 22psi, give or take. I wish to keep a/c, as this is a true street car.

The goals: 500+whp on race fuel. Now, pick a turbo and debate back and forth. I wanna see if you guys arrive at the same answer I have thus far.

can you fit a t3/60-1 with A/C? That sound really hard.

Well if your goign to run the inline pro T3 manifold, then it only leaves you an option of running the t3/60-1 or a t3/t4.

Now the specs on that t3/6-1, well why not .82 a/r, BB, stage 5 wheel.

Man I haven't heard this question in a few hours LOL

Car is in the body shop getting the under hood painted and rear bumper resprayed.
Engine is mostly assembled, just gotta pop the head on the block and small ****.
Awaiting custom built clutch from RPS (carbon/carbon)
After that, just got to press on the new wheel bearings, hubs and extended studs, build all the piping. Remainder of the **** is fabrication of the fuel system. Pretty much done with the buying process, we'll take a week off from the shop and put it together ETA - late January.

Thats basically what I had in mind, but you're the only one who's said to use the .63 a/r housing. Any insight as to your choice?

i'd say go with the .82 turbine housing if you're looking for 500+whp. Innovative offers a Ball Bearing t3/60-1 .82 hot side, .70 compressor side, and Stage 5 wheel. Wish i could have afforded the BB

I'm going with the .63 for a more usable powerband. This is for a street car primarily. I am going with the stage 5 wheel though. I've seen this same setup make 535whp with very little lag. Between the big bore motor, equal length manifold, ball bearing center, small ar, and big exhaust, i'm hoping for a very broad powerband. I'll let you know how it turns out. I would rather have a few less hp with a better powerband. If it ends up being too small then it's just a matter of changing the turbine housing.

T3/T04E

Ball Bearing

.82 A/R
Stage V

.60 A/R
60 Trim

This turbo can easliy support 500-525 whp! It will be a little less than the GT30 also.

Seems like everyone has suggested ball bearing. Now, final question, anyone have any recommendations as to where to get it? I have 1175 to spend, but of course I don't want to spend anymore than I have to. Thanks

Tony and I must be on the same page. Except my turbo (t3 60-1 stage 5 .63) lacks the BB. Wish I could have afforded that option. Hopefully the full-race mani will help out a little.

I haven't had much luck with turbonetics turbos, all the bb turbos I've dealt with seem to be far more durable. I was leaning towards Innovative Turbo systems or perhaps Precision Engine and Turbo. Thoughts?

I personally have no experiences with ITS or Precision turos, but I have heard nothing but good about them both. I have never had a problem with any Turbonetics turbos other than your normal rebuilt every 6-8 months. Like I said, the GT30 or GT35 may be the right turbo for you.
