Default Field's VTEC Harness + VAFC - connecting/wiring

Just got my Field's VTEC Harness to go along with my VAFC. Much thanks to Leo for getting me the harness.

My car goes into the shop tommorrow am for probably three weeks, so I'd like to play around with (or at least setup) the VAFC before it goes in to the body shop.

Leo said he had some info from Dropspeed about how to wire/connect the Field's harness and the VAFC that he could get to me soon. I'm just wondering if anyone had the connecting info on here (dropspeed, if you are out there.... ) tonight. I searched high and low but to no avail. No big loss if I don't set it up tonight, but I'm anxious to set it up. (that, and the vafc has been sitting at my house since before thanksgiving!)

Anyhoo, thanks in advance if anyone has that info laying around.

Thanks again to Leo for the harness and exhaust.

Heh, right. Nothing is as easy as it seems with cars, you know that B2!

I have 11 wires on my vafc. I have my field's harness that seems simple, but the directions are in japanese (BLURRY japanese at that ) and well, my japanese is really bad. (i.e, no hablo japanese). It is not 'direct' plug n play with the a'pexi vafc, but it is close and doesn't require soldering. So that is the dilemna. I'd take a picture so you can see the confusing stuff, but yo no tengo una digital camera.

Just use a helms manual if you have one to figure out which wires are which. Just pretend it's the wiring harness in the vehicle and cut into it. I cut off the connectors and soldered everything. You'll have to cut into some wires and some leads won't be used like the speed sensor. Don't remember exactly since i did this a couple of years ago.

Note: I do NOT know how to solder and do not really want to learn at this point. I am rather uncomfortable with splicing and soldering wires anywhere, let alone my car. Tearing apart the rest of my car, that is fine with me, but not wires, not me.

I'm starting to think the main misunderstanding is that I believe there was 'no' soldering/splicing. Now I'm starting to see that the benefit is that you can take out the fields harness and vafc and leave the stock wiring harness unscathed.

In any case, anyone who can lead me to some info on soldering/splicing, great. I guess I"m going to have to learn, as I'm not paying someone to set it up after I already bought the :harness:

Cut me some slack! It's late and I'm tired.

Also: I'm really not looking forward to doing this.

Hook up the VTM wire, I was told by fellow ( dumb ) H-t members that my Vtec would not work if i did so, But i did anyways and it works fine!!

What is VTM? If our cars are not VTM - equipped (which is what the vafc and fields manual) states, what would the point be?

The harness I bought has all of the necessary wires color coded with little plastic connectors over them. So, it should be very easy, i just can't read the field's instructions because they are in japanese, and the vafc manual obviously only tells you how to connect to the ecu.

you need to hook up the vtm wire or the vtec won't engage when i hooked mine up i didn't do it and when i hit vtec the car would stutter when i hit vtec.when i hooked it up everything was fine.

Well, my car goes in at 7:30am tommorrow to get started on repairs. Probably won't have her back until after new years, maybe not till the 6th or sometime that week. So, I might try to solder the fields and the vafc sometime over the next few weeks and than plug in the whole thing when my car is back. Until then, it sits and collects dust.

Speaking of 7:30, maybe I should get some sleep before then.

Chris - who will be sad to have no R for three weeks.

Anyone have any good beginners soldering info? I know NOTHING at all, not even what to buy. What a noob, I tell ya.

it should be the same wires that you hook up to the ecu.but there on the fields vtec harness.tomorrow i will check on my car and post which wires are hooked up to the ecu to my vafc.
and then see if they are the same one's on your harness.

We make plug and play adapters for V-AFC. I sold about 70 of them to the guys on the S2000 website ( http://www.s2ki.com ).

I could do these for you guys as well. Same price as the S2000 ones. $140 shipped.

I don't need one but this would actually be a great idea for some of these guys. ESPECIALLY the R's under warranty.

Field vtec harness comes color coded. At least the wires do (not the directions. ).

That's just the problem. I don't solder, don't know how, don't have the equipment and don't want to 'practice' on the harness and vafc wires that I just bought. (Ok, i know I could practice on wires laying around the garage, but the 'real' thing is always harder than just practicing) So, it's not a complaint about the harness I recieved. I just don't know how to solder.

Good greif man, soldering is little more than holding 2 wires together and melting a metal (solder) with a heat source and letting it cool to hold the2 wires together. It isn't hard. Hard to do well (clean) but not hard to do. If you can do it outside the car on a harness it is MUCH easier than down in the floorboard of a car.

All the stuff to solder will cost $20 (You will have plenty left over for other projects) and can be found at Home Depot or Lowes. Buy the solder seperately the stuff that comes in the kits sucks IMO.

It looks much more involved than that. Not that I don't believe you. I'll give it a try, but have zero experience with soldering so I'm a little apprehensive.

Now can any help me with my field's harness? Can't read the diagrams, nor can I find any documentation in English, only Japanese.

Just ignore the field instructions, you don't need them. Follow the VAFC instructions on how to hook it up. Just think of the Field harness as an extension cord for the factory harness, all the wires should be the same as the harness in the car. It should be very easy. Go to radio shack or a hobby store to get an iron and supplies. My hobby shop even showed me how to solder, maybe one can show you.

Seems like all the field's wires are color coded to go along somewhat with the vafc. Gong Show is going to show me how its done one of these days. (thanks J) I got a few weeks to figure it out, no R until January.

THIS is the info I was looking for, for those of you who said 'just solder' the vafc wires to the harness using the vafc manual. Not that easy. Color coded wires aren't the same as the vafc, adding to the confusion. Anyhoo, this clears up some of the confusion.

VAFC ----> FIELD
blue ----> white w/green stripe
yellow ----> orange
white ----> brown
grey -----> splice into one of black (ground i think)
dark pink ----> yellow
red/orange -----> red
light pink -----> dark blue
brown and grey (both grounds??) -----> tap into black
green ----> tap into black
