what papers prove a block/engine is legit?
When people sell engines with claims to have all paperwork. What are these critical items that will show proof that the motor is indeed legit and not stolen?
I mean you can prove a car legitimacy by pinkslip/title, but there isn't really a title to the engine. How does one find out?

Tell the guy to make a "bill of sale" with all his info. Name, address, phone #, etc. Then if anyone asks where you got the motor(cops), say here is the "bill of sale."
Yeah, I dont hve any paper work other than a recipt from the place I got it and I got it certified a few weeks ago, so I would say all you need I a bill of sale.
ok lets say you have a JDM motor, what's the point of having papers to prove? not like you can steal the motor here, smog it or anything in that matter. just wondering

i have a formal, typed receipt from the parts dealer that has the vin # on it that matches the vin# on the block.
i also have a carfax on the same vin#, showing the car was totaled, given a junk title, with xx,xxx miles, etc.
that's about the best you can hope for, for usdm anyways.
