Gee, I wonder if anybody asked the owner if he wanted pictures taken.

For the record, nothing was ripped off the car to 'save' the driver. The parts were flung/ripped off by the force of the rollover.

I sincerely hope that when/if this happens to me somebody doesn't take pictures and post it on the web.

it appears that the photos are copyrighted, so the must've had permission to use them....looks like at least the motor was salvagable....

Mike, T9 is at the top of the back straight? The one with the water tower or porta-potty sight reference? Was it dry for the enduro?

I can't think of a worse off other than the by-pass under the nest...

That's correct...evidently he also went off in the same place around 11am...the camera buy has a picture of the car with all four wheels ~1 foot off the ground. I think that the wreck was round 7pm, the driver said that the steering just disappeared...went off in T9 to the left, car rolled 3 times. The track photographer has quite a few pictures of the car.

Yep. Uphill left turn. Went off drivers left between top of the 'hill' & T10. Not sure of the time. It was night. Probably right about 7 PM or maybe a little later. Track was dry all day.

(I hear this a lot around here, but don't understand the rationale)

I will try to explain my take on it. When I rolled/totaled my car, it was my lost. I had put a lot of time, effort & $$ into it. Ever get kicked in the *****? Your guts hurt & you feel like hurling. It felt worst than that. At the time, I also didn't know if I would be able or even want to build/buy another car. I was also pissed that my lack of skill (in my crash) had brought me to this point in time.

I think it's more personal at this level. It's not like Honda/Acura will be sending you a new racecar. Like Mike said, I also think it would be a kick in the ego-*****.

Greg ~ who has a nervous repect for Thunderhill...

And then you discover that someone with a digital camera took a picture of you getting kicked in the ***** and posted it on the web. Now its on 50 message boards with people you don't know critiquing your kick in the nutz.

And nobody asked if this was OK with you.

Get it now?

while I personally have respect for the driver and dont take pics of wrecks (and in a weekend I usually take ~100 pics)
You guys need to realize that you are racing in public, with spectators and fans. Whatever you do is there for all to see and record, and they have every right to.
If you dont like people looking at you, scrutinizing your mangled metal and even your mistakes, you are in the wrong game.

I never suggested that there isn't a right to do it.
I'm suggesting that a person who does it without asking the driver if he's OK with it is an *******.

Wait. I'm not suggesting it. I'm stating it... Anybody who does that is an *******.

Yeah. I am with Scott on this. If you don't have the courtesy to ask, you are basically saying, "I have no respect for you."

(speaking in general here, not directed at any one person) I am sure that many people think that it is OK. Of course, there are many people who don't practice common courtesy anymore. I shouldn't be suprised.

Here is another one for you. You are walking in public with your wife/girlfriend/sister/mother/etc. Everyone has a right to be there. Everyone can look around. Some perv starts taking pictures of her. Is that OK? Would you take offense?

Sure... it's ok with me, but I hope he's OK with the fact that I may beat his a$$ and take his camera.

Or how about this one...
You're walking down the street and four guys jump you and beat the **** out of you. You're all busted up and bloody and some guy walks up and starts taking pictures so he can post it on his website.

Hey... you were in public when you got your *** kicked. And you don't own that street. So that guy has every right to be there and take pictures of your busted up ***.
Yeah... nice.

Now. If you want to come up to the guy and say "Hey buddy, I know you just got fucked up pretty good. But I was wondering if it'd be OK if I took some pictures to use to warn folks about the dangers of walking down this street." Then that's a different story.

I guess this just rubs me wrong. In the last few years I've seen many cars totalled at the track and there are ALWAYS wolves with cameras gathered around taking pictures of the damage. And I have NEVER seen anyone ask the driver if it was OK with him.
Part of me can't understand why people love taking photos of other people's misfortunes and then sharing them on the web. I guess it's just the way things are these days.
I pretty much think it sucks ***.
