Hey guys, i tried doing a search and couldnt find anything.....i was going to post this up in the integra section since i have a integra and not an R like you lucky folks, but you guys are just more knowledgable......i have a aem cai on my gsr, and now its starting to rain A LOT! i'm scared of hydrolock, and wanted to know your guys opinions on the aem bpv....does it even work?
i dont see how you couldnt have found the info you are looking for in the search because its there, but i will give you the run down on the bypass valve anyways......its ****.
I don't allways drive my R in the rain but sometimes I'm forced to, I have the AEM CAI and drive like a normal person in the rain ( My normal is everyones worst nightmare) . If I see a puddle that looks like a possible problem I go around -do not try to take it head on-. Since I installed the AEM CAI close to two years ago I have had not one problem with it or due to it.
Drive on and beware of deep water. YA know use your head.

Hmm... I started a big long thread a while ago about this, I can't find it in the search... oh well. I'll throw this out there again like I did the last thread:

If they're willing to hook one up to an NSX and dip it in a fish tank, it's good enough for my ITR

We ran Concialdi's NSX through a full, third-gear dyno pull with the filter submerged. The water was drawn up the pipe by over a foot, but it never came near the engine. When we lifted the filter out of the water during the pull, air was drawn in the main filter and tossed the trapped water around in a terrifying display of physics, but again, no water reached the engine.

just like that viper on tv commercial running on that oil substitute - i remember reading on honda-tech, somone in FL did it on their beater civic, it ran maybe for 30min till it died.
People say it makes you lose power, but I've never seen a dyno with the bypass on, and then the bypass off.
Also, when you think about it, a dyno is really not a good place to test an intake. Intakes are designed to be working with your car moving, air rushing up under your fender, etc... Not a fan pointed at your car, so I'm not sure if you can really trust intake dynos.

thanks for the suggestions people.......If i can borrow my friends stock intake, then i'll do that, but if that aem bpv on the nsx worked, it sounds very convincing! Just wondering now if anybody has any personal experience w/ one.
Also, w/ the comptech ice box, do you get the same gains as an aem cai? If so, i might just sell my aem and get that......no clue yet...just trying to see what people like, dont like, what works and dont works

bypass valve = gayfucktarded. pointless unless you plan on driving through a 10" deep puddle, or seein if your gsr floats.
oh yeah did i mention that aem had a recall on bypass valves. yeah, the rubber thing breaks off the platic basket, and gets stuck in your throttle body holding the butterfly 100% open, that happened to me, and because i knew of the recall, i imediatly turned the key off. oops sure enought there it was.in the throttle body. i pushed the clutch in and it revved to 9k. key = off.
not good, asking for some detination.

I wouldnt even install the Bypass Valve. I have heard of those things breaking apart and being sucked into the throttle body and caused more damage than it helped in many different situations. If you are worried about the rain, put your stock air box back in.
I have had an AEM CAI on my last 2 cars and haven't seen any problems with them. The first was on my 90 teg without a wheelwell so the filter was constantly exposed to the elements for about a year untill I sold the car. I've driven it through deep puddles of water at WOT with that car and it didn't hydrolock or have any problems. I have been in a car with an AEM CAI w/o a bypass valve and watched it hydrolock in a 4 inch puddle of water when it hit a pothole. I have heard stories of the old bypass valves falling apart, but from what I know AEM fixed that problem a while back. I have an AEM intake on my R now and don't worry about it very much because the wheelwell is there preventing water from coming in from the back, and whenever I hit puddles of water, I dont sit there and let the filter soak in it.
