Default New tires???

Ok, I'm having a hard time figuring out what I want to do with my wheel/tire setup. The car is a 96 Del Sol VTEC. I'm looking at 15 or 16" Circuit 8s but I can't figure out what tire to go with. The car is a daily driver with some auto-x duty expected. Hydroplaning resistance is a concern. I like the Azenis but wonder about the 205/50/15 size. I'd prefer not to roll the fenders but if they'll fit without doing it, what about the profile. I can't find my calculator to figure out how off that'd be. I'm also looking at Yoko Parada Spec-2 & of course Khumos. Looking to be under $100/tire also.

Thanks for your help everyone.

Yoko spec-IIs i hear are sheit.. Iv been running Kumos for a long time, wet and dry preformance is outstanding for what you are paying. I wouldn't use anything else for a street tire.

Dave, there's no reason the Azenis won't fit. If you're having a problem you either bought a screwed up offset or your car is too low.

Parada < crap < Kuhmo

Thanks for the help everyone. Jeff, as for the Azenis not fitting, I haven't bought them yet but I remember reading that the 205 15" azenis are just as wide as the 16". Doesn't make too much sense to me but that was why I was questioning the fitment.

RJ, Sorry to have obviously upset you so badly ("sigh")but if you can find the answer to my question by your search, you must see something I didn't. I searched before I posted and there are no threads that I found concerning the del sol in particular (I'm new to the sol and I keep getting conflicting info on the front fitment being different than a Civic or being the same. There is someone here on the RR/AX board that has a sol but I can't remember his name, thus I posted here)
I posted here because I've been impressed with the quality of info passed out and since I'm not into drag racing like most on the civic/del sol board, it just seemed to make sense. Be assured that I search everything before I post.

So, anybody have any other recommendations for a decently priced tire that has decent grip for autox?

Thanks again everyone

You need to ask Frank aka Ghettoracer. Link to his info https://honda-tech.com/zerouser?cmd=viewprofile&id=6158.

RJ wasn't upset. That was a friendly reminder. It just seems that the same ?s come up all time. Thanks for searching first.

I've got a 94 VTEC and my results are as follows:

15x7 +40mm offset
Progress + Tokico Illumina Coilover assembly

205/50/VR15 Falken Azenis on the rear, no rubbing
205/50/ZR15 Bridgestone RE-71 on the front, no rubbing.

The overall width of the RE-71s appears to be similar to the Azenis, but the sidewalls of the RE-71s seem to bulge more than the Azenis do. Strangely, when actually riding on them, the Bridgestones at 33psi felt less squishy than the Azenis at 35psi. This was with the rear shocks set to 4/5 Rebound and Compression. Kind of hard to compare worn tires to brand new ones, but that's the difference I felt.

I'll be replacing the very worn Bridgestones in the front with a new pair of Azenis, and I don't believe there will be any rubbing issues. Provided that you are running a similar offset, +40mm w/7.0" wheelwidth, there shouldnt be an issue.

Edit:
Also, the 195/55/15 or 205/50/15 tires will provide an overall wheel diameter within 0.5% of the original rolling diameter for a VTEC.

Tire diameter is independent of width, and provided the sidewalls are changed accordingly, the overall diameter of the wheel/tire will be the same. Sort of like going from a 205/60/15 to a 205/40/17 - the width wont change at all.

I remember reading that the 205 15" azenis are just as wide as the 16". Doesn't make too much sense to me but that was why I was questioning the fitment.
Tire recommendations are almost always made independent of the type of car. In this case, its a 4cyl FWD honda so what works on an integra/civic should work fine on your del sol. If you have fitment questions then the del sol forum would be the best place to ask - for tire/performance questions - you're in the right place

are no threads that I found concerning the del sol in particular

Thanks everyone. I've tried finding some 15x7 that I liked that weren't too heavy or expensive but I just keep coming back to the Circuit 8. Unfortunately, they're only 6.5 but the 205 should still fit fine, right? As for the width issue, I'm familiar with the way it works. For some reason, I just had it in my head that the 205 Azenis were closer to 210-215. Basically that the "205" was an inaccurate measurement/size/whatever you want to call it for the width. I guess I just had a brain fart or something.

Well, I guess I'll go with the Circuit 8 15x6.5 38mm offset & the Azenis. Thanks for your help everyone.
