H&R Race coilover question about settings and helper springs
I recently purchased these H&R road race coilovers and have a couple of questions. First I was wondering what kind of stroke length is needed for racing shocks...These coilovers only have about 2" of travel but they also use a 17K spring up front and a 15K spring in the rear. They also come equipped with helper springs. I am worried that I am not getting enough shock travel to make the shocks work correctly. But I have noticed that most true racing coilovers do not have much shock travel...Ie Mugen N1, Fightex N1, Zeal etc. I also wanted to know if it is ok to take out the helper springs. They seem to make noise that I do not like and from what I understand their sole purpose is to hold the wheel to the ground under super hard turn in and when you are entering an uneven driveway or something to that effect.
Does anyone have any pointers on these coilovers...I am hoping that someone currently uses these or has used them in the past, and can give me some well needed suggestions. I am mostly concerned with optimizing the spring rates and getting the stroke length at the optimal setting. The car is 50% race and %50 street so I would like to possibly have a couple of sets of springs on hand to work under both sets of circumstances as well as two different spring perch settings.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...Currently I am all the way at the top of the threads in the front with about a finger gap and the rear is just about all the way to the top of the threads and has about two fingers of gap when the car is on the ground without a driver inside.
My overall experience with them so far has been incredible! The turn in is incredible and the car has very little lean to it. I cannot believe how well they track!! They are also extremely light. By the way I replaced a set of Apexi N1's and have definitely been pleased with my decision...The only bad thing was that I had to buy a set of pillow mounts and the Apex-i came with them.
Thanks for the help.

Leave the helper springs since you're still on the street sometimes. It's a good idea to keep them on there since you don't have seperate height and pre-load adjustment.
I would also swap the front springs and rear springs for better on track handling.

B20Vtec nice coilover. i have set myself. i don't drive my car much but they handle very well and coilover is super light . if you have any questions talk to Roger @ H&R spring. they can help you the with spring rate. i talk to him all the time. good luck
Have you noticed that they seem to be slightly bouncy on the street. I actually went with a different bump stop that seemed to help out on the street (making it less bouncy) but I must say they definitely do not ride like my Apex-i N1's did. the Apex-i set up seemed to respond much quicker when reacting to bumps in the road. Have you had this same experience with yours? If so do you have any suggestions...Different spring, different bump stops, different helper springs...Or of course maybe this is the way they are supposed to ride...I used the Apex-i set up for over a year so I was pretty familiar with that feel...Of course when racing on a track ideally we are on a super flat surface. Thanks for the help...I am very appreciative
