Coilz? or Springz?
no im not talkn about coilz or springz and in coilovers or springs.. im talkn about which one will hurt more when i hit you ova the head wit one of them.. wat the *** else you think am talkn about? dont be so "ignant"
really the only advantage a coilover has over a spring is that you are adjust how high or low your car sits. That is the only advantage a coilover has. but then is it really worth the extra cash to be able to do that?

Is this the Lady Racer from the Sprite commercials? LOL j/p.
If you're serious, get good springs and shocks if you don't plan to do any adjustments, i.e. cold climate driving, autocross. Nothing worse than paying a lot for coilovers and not getting any real use outta them.
Get coilovers if you are REALLY gonna use them and adjust your ride height for different situations.
I know i'm not listing all the advantages/disadvantages, just keeping it basic.

Coils are more expensive than springs. Because they give you the option of raising and lowering your car. I guess they are usefull if you are deeply involved in suspension tuning. I wouldn't get them for a daily driver, your camber will never be the same. Springs are not as expensive and are the appropriate way to modify your suspension for daily driving. If you want your cars handling or turning to slightly improve.
None of the applications are going to improve the ride quality. Nothing beats the stock spring when it comes to smoothness.
Then there are people who only purchase springs or coils just to lower their vehicle. Which I think is dumb. Because I'd rather have a spring that helped my cars performance rather than its looks. You see people with their civic's inches above the ground, its pointless. It is not beneficial in any way, other than a look.

To add to the confusion...the general term "coilover" refers to any suspension design where the damper is encircled by the spring...this includes SLA and MacPherson suspension designs.
But coilover as most of us refer to are basically height adjustable suspension kits. You can have full bodied coilovers or "sleeve" kits. It's all up to you on how much you want to spend and what you want to do with the car.
