How Do I Clean My Engine bay!??!
Aight, I know how to, just had one question about it:
I have a citrus based engine degreaser, will that remove the corrosion resistant material that some of the parts are coated with? I've been told that it's pretty mild, and that it shouldnt do any harm. Just wanna make sure before I go clean my bay.

Follow the steps listed on this website, I guarantee that you will be amazed with the results. I substituted Meguiars Vinyl and Rubber cleaner/protectant instead of Amor All-turned out great.

You can place a plastic bag around your distributor to be safe.

I cleaned the heavy **** with gunk remover. Then I got some stuff called "Foamy Engine Bright". You make sure the engine is COLD and dry, cover up electronics and air filter, then spray all over. Let it foam for about 10 minutes and scrub tough spots. Then hose off by sprinkling water.
My engine looks real dope now.

yeah i use like 2 cans of foaming engine cleaner, just keep covering **** until the cans are empty, concentrating on the nasty areas. (this is mainly the first time i clean an engine on one of my cars, just keep it spotless after that). kindof be careful of the distributor, and the area in between cams on the v/c, other than that, let the foamy stuff sit for like 5 mins, then pressure wash off. let everything dry really good, take it for a drive, then i put black magic tire shine (the good smelling ****) on a rag and wipe the hoses with it. blingin yo. pimp tiiite stunnariffic
I use Brake Cleaner on the tranny and block, But be careful not to get it on any paint or it will strip it right off. Then I use Simple Green to clean the rest of the engine off with.

Yes, and the air filter if u have a shortram.
So, your saying that the only thing that you need to cover when spraying water on your engine is the distributor?

Yea use that stuff along with taking it to your local cash wash place to use the pressure washer, it works hella good!!! Just cover your distibutor and spark plug wires!
yeah, just the gap between the distributor and the distributor cap. if it gets water in there, you could have some ignition problems. i never cover it with plastic, but i make sure not to concentrate pressure on it.
Simple Green, wire brush, tooth brush, rags, synthetic steel wool, anything else that may be useful. It took a few intense scrubings/washings to get mine clean. Once you get it clean all you should really have to do is spray degreaser, let it sit, and rinse off. Do this atleast once a month and it should stay fairly clean.
Here is what mine looks like now.
Good luck...

DAMN! That is one clean engine bay! I think I might take some time out this weekend and clean mine up as well
Where can you buy Simple Green?
Where can you buy Simple Green?
DAMN that looks good. (especially the fuel rail and regulator... mine look like ish still.)
I recomend using FOAMING simple green it's new and it rocks... plus it's not flammable like the other stuff so you can spray it on while the engine is hot (this makes it more effective) spray it down good only complaint would be is you may have to use two cans. Also simple green is biodegradable (not like what you clean off is but at least it's not both dirt and cleanser)
And ya I wrap the wires and distributer with ceran wrap. works great... I've never had a problem when I didn't use it though.. however a friend of mine with a vw did. it turned out that one of his ground wires was kinda shaky as it was then when it got wet it was ill-plapla till it dried.

dzzzzzzzzamn!!! very nice engine bay homeeeey! mine is gettin madd dusty. (i know i.m an integ owner, but i hoped to see some nice ek's in here)
You don't *have to* cover your dist, but it only takes a second to cover it up with a cheap plastic grocery bag. Just don't spray (especially with a pressure nozzle) directly at the distributor & wires. Also, the Amor All will give it a 'greasy' look, but you can wipe it down with a rag once everything is dry and it won't look 'greasy', just clean like the way it came off the dealer lot.
