Intake "squeal" from short ram
I have a b18c with a generic short ram intake and K&n filter. Whenever I hit the gas the car "squeals" a really high pitched uncool girly squeal. Anyone have any ideas on how I can put a breather on it or somthing?

doublecheck all your clamps to be sure.
I have an old style AEM short ram, and I get the same noise.....I don't think theres any way around it. Sounds almost like a mini blow off valve or something. I think its just generated by the sudden induction of air when the throttle is pressed.....dunno though.
I made sure my connections were tight, and they all checked out...standing with the hood open, I blipped the throttle and the noise is definately coming from the filter.
I don't find the noise to be too annoying, so I'm not gonna worry bout it.

First of all, thanks both of you for your quick responses...
Sounds like your car makes the same sound, I wish it didn't bother me ;(
I checked all my fittings and gaskets, they are all tight. Without the K&N it still squeals, maybe it is just a bad shape or somthing?

Yep... that is typical on a aftermarket intakes.
They act almost like a wind instrament. From the design of the the intake, the certian size an legth, it will emit a certain tone.
I have a cheep Ractive Short Ram intake I got off a friend when I first bought my car. It does the same thing (but only at small range of throttle positions and engine speeds).
Some of the more better (aka "more expencive") intakes take this into account and/or have better designs so that they don't emit a "musical note" (so to speak). But even some of those will still emit a tone at certain throttle possitions or RPMs. It's just the nature of the beast with no intake resonator.

Ther is a Flat head screw on your TB. It faces the passsanger side of the car. You can adjust this to make the whistling sound go away if you dont want to hear it.

Isn't that the Idle Adjustment Screw?
it angles the butterfly in the throttlebody, but it can change the idle a little bit.

my friends b18c1 with aem cai, does the same thing, then he put in the water stop valve and the noise goes away. i forgot what the piece is called.
the small flat screw is the idle adjustment,.. it controls a smallamount of air to the aic. it has noting to do with throttle plate position,.. but tampering with that does make the noise go away
most likely you have a crack somewhere in the piping or it isn't clamped correctly to the throttle body. when you have air rushing through a pipe with a hole or crack in the piping itself, it will make the high pitched squeeling noise.
just reinstall it and see if its ok, if not you might have to shell out the money for a quality intake like AEM or iceman.
