4th and 5th gen. owners, i got some great news......
my friend knows some guys who own a shop that makes carbon fiber and other parts for airplanes. their business is kinda slow so they want to start making c/f parts for cars as well. they are already making a prototype of a c/f wide body kit for the new Z.
of course, i suggested that they should make some prelude parts
here is what i suggested so far:
carbon fiber front lip, and maybe rear.
carbon fiber hood
carbon fiber trunk lid.
that would reduce some weight since are cars are pigs. they are down to make them and they would use my car to make the hood and the trunk lid.
if we can get a lot of people together, the prices will be awesome (hood - $350-400, trunk lid - $400, lip - $200-250). the carbon fiber they use is of excellent quality and it will be much better than most c/f hoods on the market today.
so lets organize this better than that 4the gen c/f lip!!!!
who is down? all 4th and 5th gens are welcome........

I would love to see a decent front and rear lip for our 4th gens. I'll submit some designs later in the week if I get a chance. Great looking out BB1!!
tell you what, get them to donate some carbon fiber parts for my car, and I'll make them famous.
You do realize that I'm going to be in magazines in the states, AND in Europe, right?
I need a vented CF hood, and a front splitter. A CF trunk would be nice too.

Congrats on the gumball run, don't blow up your car before you cross the finish.
BTW- Bring a lawyer, you'll need one.

CF Lip for under $300 I'm definitely down! May I suggest molding it after the Type S lip for the BB6s. Keep us updated please.
I'd actually consider the hood and trunk lid too maybe this summer.

Here my opinion: the trunk lid is pretty light stock, at least it feels light, maybe 10-12 lbs? And, if you use a c/f piece you'll have to retain the stock attachments, and still use the metal (heavy) joints to attach it to the car, so, you would honestly need to get the trunk lid to weight ~ 2 lbs. to show a substantial savings? The hood, is a pig, but how much lighter will this c/f hood be, and what will be the advantage of it over the other 4 or 5 brands of hoods available? The front lip? Not for me, but I'm sure it'll be gorgeous on a 5th gen.
Instead of c/f how about Aluminum pieces? Your friends in aerospace, Al work is second nature to those guys, isn't it?

The thing with companies that manufacture carbon fiber parts for industrial purposes (i.e. aerospace) is that their parts do not need to be free from visual imperfections. So the visual finish of the final product may not be up to the standards that a car enthusiast might expect. Their industrial customers usually care more about part strength and fitment than things that a car owner would care about - like weaves that are perfectly aligned or nice smooth gelcoat finishes...
You'd probably want to see some consistant samples of their consumer work before doing any kind of contract with them.

plus, we would only use joints that hold it but not the rest of the stuff, no lock... pins would be used instead.
i think it would be a good idea to get the to sponsor JG luder. it would be a great advertisement.
as far as quality, they will be second to none. they are aware of the fact that people don't want any imperfections and they'll have that in mind.
i'll keep you guys updated as i get more details.
Not to cut into your thread but I just confirmed we will have 2 5th gen CF trunks available next week for $500 plus shipping. After that we will make more. IM if interested. Pics and everything next week.
If they could make a full carbon fiber shell for me I might be interested
Personally I wouldn't go any further than the hood, otherwise it starts to look a little ridiculous, but that's just my opinion. Good luck with the carbon fiber parts, hope they sell well

carbon fiber parts look extremely tacky in my eyes. i would never put one on unless my car was black.
and if you don't like it or don't want it you didn't really have to reply.
i asked "who's in?" not who's not. but thanx for your opinion anyway.
