how can you tell that vtec is working on d15b????
are the D15B2, D15B6, D15B7, or D15B8 even vtec engines?? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the only D15 (1493 cc) engine honda has made is the D15Z1 in the 92-95 civic vx. and it was a vtec-e w/ 9.3:1 compression, 92 hp @ 5500rpm and 97ft/lb @ 4500 rpm

Flaming is alright if you actually give the flamee the correct answer so they won't have to ask again.
ok guys im sorry for sayin that ****. ive had a real stressful day. by the way, im NOT a noob. ive just got a new name. im very intelligent about hondas, and i just had never heard of a d15b vtec. my bad. the best way to check for vtec engagement is 1) to check the ecu wire that sends voltage to the solenoid, 2) check for voltage at the solenoid ( this is hard to do sometimes, since vtec wont engage a lot of times with the car just sitting) and 3) listen for the solenoid clicking (you might have to pull off the hood and drive it around). these are the best different ways i know to check if vtec is engaging.

if i had a digital camera I would take picture of my engine bay and prove you wrong mate! but since i cant just trust me when i tell you that i have a d15b w/vtec in my 92 hatch...anyhow another question:
would you be able to feel vtec kik in when it engages in this engine type...my mechanic told me that you cant feel it on sohc engines but this other mechanic said that vtec is not working 'cose his bro's gotta a sedan with a d15b vtec and you can feel it/hear it wotaver
wot u guys have to say about that?

if you're not throwing any codes and you have full oil and warmed up, should be all gravy. Run a 3 inch intake piping and stock exhaust and you should be able to hear it. The single cams usually rev pretty quick so it's not a noticable "KICK" like in a torqueless B16
Hey, I have the D15B (1500 Sohc vtec) in my civic sedan. I can tell that Vtec is engaging because I have a pod filter which creates the boooobaaaaaa vtec crossover noise. There is a slight increase in power but I guess its not very noticable.

i just finished swapping a d15 b in my car and its really nice. the car pulls pretty hard and i'm not even sure if vtec is working. is it possible to hear the vtec in these motors? even if it did make that prolific vtec sound i still wouldn't know what it sounded like because i drive my dad's Gsr every once in a while and i still don't know what kind of sound to listen for. wat the heck kind of sound does it make?
WWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABBBBBBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
DOHC's sound like Bombs literely with Intake at least Sochs make a littler sound like
wwwwaaaaaaaaaaabbbbaaaa
Friends D16Y8 sound nice and he has I/H
But MY B18C1 sounds like a bomb people know that its not the SOHC when they hear Vtec in mine.

and maybe try this....
try to drive it so that the rpm's are slowly climbing...you should be able to hear a little change in sound of your engine....use this to hear if it is actually changing over....
i got a D15b7 and i feel a big kick once it hits 3500-5000rpm but only in first and second gear, is that vtec? also which would be the best head to put on a D15b7 for vtec?

No, the 3500 - 5000RPM zone is normally where these engines are least powerful ie. have the least kick. It should be around 5500+ RPM zone where you feel a slight increase.

if i remember correctly, my old d16's vtec kicked in at about 4500 or so......it was not like a rush of power, but a slight increase.....while keeping your pedal at a steady point...

What civic HB do you have? Is it a VTi or an american Dx, Vx, Cx, or Si?
My Canadian Dx (D15B7) pulls really hard at around 5,500 RPM but I'm sure it is not VTEC.
If you are in Australia that is why you have an engine not alot of people are familiar with? Lite wieght and good power COOL!

The Vti has the D15B (as I have one) so I guess thats what he's talking about. It might be called something differnet in Australia but in New Zealand and japan its called the Vti.
