Welding H22A cylinder head combustion chamber ?
Well, not exactly. I have a honda performance book which mentions it and for quite a while now have been looking into it. It raises compression slightly and somehow creates better flow. Its done frequently on B16 heads.
Sounds interesting and every little bit of power helps!

don`t forget if you weld, you might have to mill the head, and if you mill you need custom pistons for this, can`t have high compression pistons because the dome might hit, also worry about valve releives and last but not least cams.. cams with too much of a lift may narrow valve to piston clearances... these are things of the top of my head but hey i`ve never seen one personally only in magazines and on the net.. stuff to look out for....
This place does head welding but they changed their site and the only pictures I could find were on this page.

On the page you can see a picture where they have welded the portion in between the intake and exhaust valves an looks slightly diffrent than the surrounding metal.

The squish areas are welded flat so that they get as close to the piston as possible when the piston is at TDC. These flat areas that come very close to the piston as the piston comes up squeezes the mixture out of that area as the piston comes up and into an area with a smaller diameter. It increases swirl/tumble and generally increases turbulance.

DPR has been welding combustion chambers for as long as I can remember. That's how they reshape the chamber to get the famed cloverleaf head design. Some people say it's alright to weld into the chamber, and others say it isn't w/o proper heat treat..

good question. How exactly does it benefit?
