You are probably right...

I have noticed recently there are a lot of people who spend an aweful lot of time jumping down other people throats. Just wondering how many seasoned engine builders we really have on this forum.

I can do everything but a good solder, but my partner is far faster than I. Hence, I usually just wrench on my own car for fun and tune everybody's for a living

I've done searches now and then on some more technical topics, and you will see them (seasoned engine builders/very knowledgeable folks) pop up, there seems to be quite a few.

who is not one of those people

I've done everything from building tub-&-tube chassis: Up to complete engine build-up, and building my own stand-alones. I wish I had more money though. Build, build, build, built.

I want to learn how to build an engine myself, but don't know where or when I have time to learn with school and work. Plus it seems like kids get into cars because their dads are already into cars and learn from the old man. My dad is an aerospace engineer who doesn't know anything about cars. He just does a lot of home improvement and yard work!

I know for a fact that there are people who claim to do things, but in fact dont.

As for me I'll take up anything, its the best way to learn. If I need or have a question I contact earl, tony1, markc, or falcongsr.

I think I'm pretty competent with building stuff...I built my motor by myslef. it's actually not that hard.

I still gotta learn how to tune more finely though

one time i changed a lady's flat tire on the side of the road AND i read corky bell's book. so that means i know everything! right? jk.

Engine building is not as tricky as most people make it out to be, after building a motor once its pretty much downhill from there. If you have the tools and a honda book, you can be your own mechnic. The only thing i wish i was more knowledgeable at is engine tuning. Im a little worried about taking it into my own hands at the fear of melting my pistons. Ive got the basic "know how" and ive watched my car get dyno-tuned, but to me thats not grounds for me to go out and say im a "tuner." Im talking about FULL out tuning on a stand-alone system. So until i actually sit down, attend a course or have someone teach me, i feel safer letting Ed at balanced performance take care of my tuning needs

There will be a book out soon. And this guy is on HT, or has posted in the past.

We in the industry call these people internet mechanics

John - who has never recieved a question from Art, and who has also never signed his signature in third person before, nor ever will again.

They must be related to the "Hey, hand me that" mechanics. They're the ones that just stand around and watch you work on THEIR cars. And you always say "Hey, hand me that" to them. Then they go around telling their friends that they installed their own turbo kit, did their own engine buildup, tuned everything themselves...
