Do a lot of ls/vtec & B20/vtecs run autocross???
I'm a happy owner of my 93 civic coupe b20vtec and always wanted to autocross, and hope to in the near future and soon as I finsh the suspension setup. I'm wondering if there are a lot of other ls/vtec combos that run autocross? How do you like it, how does the motor run, and have you had any problems? Thanks for sharing your experiences.
I don't know of To many that do due ot calssing issues, the engine will put you in a prepared or mod class of some sort, not sure if it is leagal for street mod for that matter. In my opinion though it should be a great engine for that for the extra torque that that set up gets you. I would defintaly be better than b16a or b18c in turn arounds and slow parts on the course. I would not worry to much about suspension set up if you are just starting out though, as drive is way more important.

There are a few, but not too many, as engine swaps bump you to Street Mod. But that is no reason not to participate. Come out, have fun, learn the ropes. Don't bother changing anything on the car yet - drive it as-is for now. Once you figure out what you want/need to do to get faster, then start modding. A hybrid Civic should be very capable locally in Street Mod (and possibly even nationally).
If you are a serious autox'er the use of a LSVTEC wont be as effective as a straight LS or CRV with a B16A or ITR tranny. It is a tighter slower speed race and torue is the owning factor. Save the money from the VTEC head and get suspension or tires...
"Save the money from the VTEC head"
Well Since he already has and B20 Vtec... He should save his money and jsut drive.
And another Questions, I know Engine Swaps are Leagal in SM however would an LS Vtec or b20 vtec be Legal? Since it is a Head from a differnt engine than the block?

I've said is 100 times. I am positive that the right CRVtec engined car can be extremely competetive nationally in SM. Problem is, the people who are doing these swaps well are not the ones who are interested in winning a national auto-x championship.
Cool... Would be neet to see someone build a B20 VTEC 89-91 Hatch and see how it would do in sm.
the only guy who smote me in SM was a friggin mustang....3 times by a total of lass than 1 second over the 3 weekends.....i was pissed he would smote me on the last run of the day too!!!

you have to run SM2 which of course was one by a Z06 at nationals I belive.
Could I run nitrous in the straights?
Oh, well that kinda sucks. However, I am not trying to win the nationals.

I ran my my B20 Vtec in a SCCA autocross this fall. It was my first autocross and I did miserably.
Primarily because I need alot more seat time. When they tech'ed me they put me in SM. I would guess that if I ran the times my car is capable of (with a descent driver), I would have been moved to SM2 or higher. But I am doing it just for fun right now so I don't care where they place me for now.

Sorry bud. You don't get moved in classes for autocross. If you're SM, you stay SM. SM2 is for 2 seaters like the CRX, Corvette, ETc.

There's a guy down in San Antonio running with the SASCA group http://sasca.world-net.net/ that has a 92 hatch with a CRVTEC motor, and he kicks some serious ***. The top two cars that run with our group are this guy with the CRVTEC EG hatch and an FD series RX-7, and they're always pretty close. It's perfect b/c he has so much torque so he explodes out of turns, but when he hits VTEC that thing is flying.

Overkill - The name is Christian and not BUD.
Sorry, Christian. I didn't mean to be condescending to you. I only us Bud when I'm typing quick. It's funny how some people take that offensively. I also call my Mom "old lady". It's a good though, hopefully you'll stick with it like I did

Thanks for the clarification of proper AutoX etiquette. As stated it was my first autocross so pardon me if I used the word "moved". I guess I meant disqualified from SM. I tried to count my modification penalties but I gave up trying to figure out where I should be and just put myself into SM and the Tech inspector agreed.

Of course, there is a loophole here. Somtimes the SCCA realizes they made a mistake in classing certain cars, and they can move those cars. Rare occurance though, and very often more politically driven than not....or so it seems.

Could I run nitrous in the straights?
1. Nitrous isn't allowed in auto-x (or anything SCCA as far as I know).
2. Straights? In auto-x?
Yea thanks happy, I kinda already arrived at that conclusion, and I was thinking more for road racing not so much autoxing. Sorry.
