Imported car classification
I've seriously been looking at importing an EP3 CTR, as it can be done for $25K including shipping, taxes, US legal conversion, the car, etc. This gives a couple of advantages over the RSX-S for a grand above RSX-S MSRP, despite the fact that it has the S engine rather than the R's. Type-R trans w/ 4.764 final drive (LSD option), no leather, couple hundred pounds lighter, aero bits, and I'm sure all the usual Type-R stiffening goodies.
But anyway, I was just wondering... How would I be classed for autocross?? At this point I'm not worried about being competitive, just out to have fun, but it is hard to gauge relative improvement and set goals when you are A) Unclassed or B) In some freakish class where you will be utterly destroyed.

Stock, Street Prepared, Prepared, STS/STX, and Street Mod are all out, as they require USDM vehicles. Possibly D Modified, depending if it specifies USDM or not (I don't recall). If that fails, then off to A Mod you go.
would have to run in a Mod class since the car was never offered in the US (not yet at least). Regionally i think you could get by in Street Mod.
Our region has an imported Skyline who runs SM and no one cares, just as long as the modifications on it conform to SM rules.
The only risk you run is that if you were to take 1st in SM then you could be easily protested and lose your 1st place.
Another place you might be able to run an imported car is ASP because I think that's where they throw a lot of unclassified cars such as GT2s and some Vipers. I could be wrong though.

Another possibility - in some of the Prepared and Modified listings, replica cars are allowed. They pay a weight penalty that varies according how similar the replica chassis is to the original. You'd have to read the rules, but you might be able to call your JDM Civic a replica and run accordingly. I haven't read that portion of the rulebook in a while so can't comment further.
