Default New To Forum - Full of Questions - Help Please :-)

I've read a few posts and I'm full of questions at this point.

Ok, here we go:

- What are the first mods you usually do to your stock car (I'm into performance and not looks)?

- What is the expected HP increase with each mod?

- What is the cost (Approx.) for each mod?

- How do you control the way the V-Tech kicks in on your car?

- What kind and where do you get turbos?

- At what point on your mods, do you jeperdize or void the warranty?

- With a Cold Air Intake, Headers, and Mofler what kind of power should I get?

- And, is there a difference between AEM and the rest of the Cold Air Intakes out there?


A little bio on myself:

I work in the USAF and used to have a GSXR1000. After getting VERY lucky several times, I started to feel like I was living in borrowed time, so I decided for the sake of my family to go with something a bit more tone down like a car. Although I'm not expecting to get the same adrenaline rush I used to get when wheeling past people on the highway doing 120mph+ or doing top end runs at over 180mph , I at least would like to set up my Type-S just above the rest (uh, did that rhymed? ).

Ok bro I'll try and help you out.


- What are the first mods you usually do to your stock car (I'm into performance and not looks)?
The first mods people usually do are intake, header, exhaust, and better tires. And you may want to do some suspension to help with the handling of the car. And you can also get the Hondata Ecu flash, this reprograms your cars computer.

- What is the expected HP increase with each mod?
Well depends on what intake, exhaust, and header you get. But the most hp you can expect out of these is like an additional 13-15hp at the wheels if that much. But the intake has show dyno's charts showing gains of over 15hp at the wheels just from an intake. The best thing to get for your car first is an intake. The hondata ecu flash has shown a 20 whp from the flash alone.

- What is the cost (Approx.) for each mod?
Intakes: Aem cold air intake= 350.oo
Injen short ram intake= 320.oo
Header: spoon 4-2-1 header = 1100.oo
dc 4-2-1 header= 380.oo
Toda 4-2-1 header= TBA
comptech 4-2-1 header= 425.oo
comptec race header= 925.oo
Exhaust: comptech, apexi, hayame,manga flow, buddy club, and a few more range between 500-900 dollars.

Suspension: It can range from 300 - 1200 depends on how serious you want to get. You can just get some springs for like 200.oo or coilover like skunk2's for like 300-400 dollars or you can get serious and go with Tien which can vary from 600-12oo.oo .

Hondata ecu flash: 6oo.oo


- How do you control the way the V-Tech kicks in on your car?

Well it is i-vtec not V-tech, that's a phone. At the moment you can't control vtec. Some have said that the Apexi Vtec controler can work with our car but the Apexi website says it will not work with our cars so don't waste your money on that yet.You can get Hondata ecu flash which lowers your vtec engagement time and raises your redline a bit higer.

- What kind and where do you get turbos?
There are a few turbos out. Greddy has one but I am not sure if they have released it yet. REVhardhas one, and There is another one that is custom made for our car but I am not sure who makes it. You may want to check the greddy or revhard site out for more information. But be prepared to pay some good $$$ for the turbo and instal.

- At what point on your mods, do you jeperdize or void the warranty?
The minute you make your first mod. But here is the thing about the warrenty. This is what they tell everyone. " If the mod contributes to the problem of the car then the warrenty is voided." In other words if your tranny goes out and all you have is a intake then your warrenty is still valid. But if you hydrolock( water gets into you engine) and you have a intake then your warrenty is gone. Got it?

- With a Cold Air Intake, Headers, and Mofler what kind of power should I get?

I just answered this above in another qustion. You are looking at 13whp at most.

- And, is there a difference between AEM and the rest of the Cold Air Intakes out there?
The Aem is a good intake and has a good cold air intake out on the market, but the only down side of the Aem CAI is that you have to relocate the washer fluid bottle and I have heard this is a pain in the ***.
