Default Just installed 17" rims, now I need lower, lowering springs...AGAIN. D@mn.

Some of you guys may remember about two months ago when I installed the H&R Sport springs (1.75F, 1.5R) on my '91 Accord with OE 15" rims...I loved the look and handling of my car at the time.

Here's a pic of that:

However, just last weekend, I bought and installed 16" rims on the car. Now, the car sits up like it's a d@mn truck again...

Here's a pic of my car now:

I'm so pissed. I guess I'm going to have to sell the two-month-old H&R Sport springs and purchase the H&R Race springs now...I really want it to get it back to the way it was when I lowered it the first time, which I thought (any many of you too) looked great.

Here's the ebay link for my two-month-old H&R Sport springs, if anybody's interested, starting at $90. I'm going to post the sale in the Classifieds section as well.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1874673424

Thanks for listening guys. Hmmph!

Edit: Installed 16" rims, not 17" rims...

Did you change the overall tire diameter?

Did you have a question or something you want to talk about? Or were you just ranting? Why isnt this in Appearance?

why dont you upgrade the struts if you want your car lower. get rid of the OEM's and get some Koni Yellows.

umm....struts won't make it lower. he needs springs. IF i was you i'd get adjustable coil overs.
also, it would only that if you changed tire diameter. what are the tire specs on those new tires? Cause i know i can put some 17's with 205/40r17 rubber on them and they are almost exactly the same size meaning the car height wouldn't change. You need to put smaller tires on those 16's. Probably 205/45r16 should work just fine. again, state the specs and i'll tell ya what size would be more appropriate.

You are incorrect sir.

Some strut manufacturers have two sets of perches to use.

aka, koni yellows....they are the only shocks (other than full coilovers) that have adjustable perches (for the accord that is)

nfiedler3, nice house ya got there. Good job with the interior decorating. You must be a very successful guy and a productive member of society; too bad you have a bitter attitude towards others for no reason.

...but still kinda funny. I laughed for a second.

Actually, yes...I just went and measured an old tire and one of the new tires:

The old tires are, of course, 195/60's, with a height measurement from rim to tread of 4".

The new tires are 205/50's, with a height measurement of only 3.75" from rim to tread.

I think you just answered my dilemna. Since the new tires are a lower profile, the gap is more evident. I know I don't want to get fatter/taller tires, so I guess I still have no choice but to lower it a little more to achieve my desired look.

Thanks for your help.

Moderator: Yes, this post definitely needs to eventually be moved to the "Appearance" forum, but I guess I wanted to direct my post to the attention of 1) people who have experience with Accords, and 2) people who may be interested in getting a great deal on an almost-new set of springs. Sorry about that, however.

I suppose that was an indirect compliment. Thanks I think.

Here's why:
Race Glaze products.

No problem but I'm a little confused. Tell me if I'm doing something wrong.
195/60/15 = 24.213" dia.
205/50/16 = 24.071" dia.
It doesn't seem like anything should have really changed, unless I'm just calculating it wrong.

That's why I was so upset in the first place. With the addition of th larger rim--but lower profile tire, the visual difference should not have been this apparent.

It just doesn't make sense.

about the koni yellows, i didn't know they had 2 perches. that i can see would be adjustable, but just changing normal struts wouldn't change the height. i was checking also and it's only .1" difference in diameter so your car should be the same. measure the distance from teh tire to your fenderwell and see if that is the same as it used to be. It might have all stayed the same, just LOOK different. You can't really tell because the pictures you posted are different angles and the car is in an incline in teh second one. get a side picture of the new rims and maybe we can tell better. Different rim sizes can give you illusions. it should be unnoticable since it's only .1" difference in diameter.

Yup, bring that baby to the Midwest for a week after the first good snow and we'll have it all brown and speckled by spring . j/k, My wrecked '92 is white and I hope it looks as good as his when finished. I liked the stock whels better though.

In certain cities they dump so much salt it's in piles at the intersections and people actually slide in the salt ! I ain't kiddin'!!! Once you see the first specks of rust it's too late. As long as it's below freezing you're OK, no oxidation takes place, but once it warms up look out and you NEVER get all the salt washed off no matter how hard you try.

rust on our cars is pretty bad because honda has these rubber strips lining the rear fenders, which basically just collect water and start rust. anyway if the tire size is right, then it must just be the way it looks. im sure you have seen pictures of stock hieght cars with 17's. they look like trucks, but the height should actually be the same with the correct size tires.

there we go, from teh side view it looks the same to me. it has an illusion of being a little taller because of the rim size change but it doesn't look like it gained any height.

why did you sell your car?
