Default Wheels/Control Arms...how much clearance is safe?

After finally getting tires for these bad boys, I decided to test fit the panasports to the CRX just to tripple check before I mount the tires. I only looked at the rears (more to make sure it was the right bolt pattern and to test the fitment of the lug nuts I hope to use). There is VERY little clearance between the wheel and the upper control arm, but the wheel spins freely and there is nothing touching or rubbing for sure. I suspect the fronts will have even more clearance, since I only hear about problems in the rear. My question is, is "just barely enough clearance" enough clearance? Is there any flex or movement that I need to check before I take these up to speed?

Sounds dangerous to me. Please ship me your wheels and I'll evaluate them for a year or so.

Ahhh yes, selfless acts of beneficence that keep motorsports alive

My inexperience with very wide wheels is showing. Anyone else care to comment? I have NO problem running spacers, I just don't want to if I don't have to, and they might create tire clearance issues on the other side of the wheel. Paranoia?

-travis, who had his panasports ready for shipping to Geezer, but thought better of putting him in harm's way.

your 38 offset panasports should be fine on a crx. you should massage the fender lips both front and back tho. plastic rubbing will be fine, but you dont want the fender to cut into the tire.

Yea, that was the word from the beginning by the few people I asked (including you, as I reacall). Still, I was expecting more room between the upper control arm and the inside of the wheel. Oh well, lets get tires on them and see what else is dangerous
