Default white smoke from exhaust....on and off ??

i just replaced my headgasket with a new one...and now i got white smoke coming out of my exhaust...i check my dip stick, no sign of coolant, check my oil cap - no sign of coolant, my motor doesn't overheat...everything seemed fine so i decide to take it for a spin...i drive it hard..come back home..and the white smoke is gone...i let it idle for another 10 min..then it comes back...but not as much...da hell is goin on?...why would a new headgasket be blown?...could i have installed it incorrectly? i bolted the head wrong?...arrrrr!..i need help!

I don't know if this could be the problem, but it might atleast give you and others something to work with. How did you install the head gasket? From what I've read, it should slowly be torqued down in a cross pattern. Also, did you reuse the head bolts? I believe those would've also been a good thing to replace since they can stretch.

Hope that helps atleast a little.

i torqued the head in a cross pattern as it said so in the manual..also in a two step process..1st at 22 ftlb then 2nd at 53 ftlbs....but i reused my old head bolts...i drove my car to work today and everything seemed fine...i see no white smoke anymore..but im still a little worried...

The first day I did my ZC swap in my CRX I had white smoke. I found out that it was because I had too much oil in the car...way to much. I guess I doubled up and had like 7 or 8 quarts in there. I felt so stupid. I mean I can install an engine, trany, do all the wiring, and the only thing I mess up is adding too much oil? Oh well, I drained it all out and started with the recommended amount. Needless to say, the "white smoke" has not returned.

If you re-used the headbolts they are supposed to stretch out some if reused. You may want to get back in there and re-torque them down, especially since you reused them.
