i am trying to talk my friend with a del Sol Si into putting a GReddy turbo kit on his stock engine rather than trying to put a swap together (it's official, i'm a boost junkie), but he wasn't impresed with one of the turbo SOHC cars we saw at NOPI on the dyno, it put out 153whp at 6psi, but i told him that their are guys with B16s and such running 12 psi with the VAFC hack on stock engines, and i was just wondering if that was possible with a D16
The d16 can take plenty of boost, as long as the timing is retarded, colder plugs, and decent tuning. 12psi w/ a stock block is no problem, and that should be around 200hp or more or less depending on a BUNCH varibles.
Maybe not 12psi daily. I drive with the GReddy kit with 5.5psi daily and 8psi on high boost with the Profec. If he's staying with stock bottom end, do the VAFC hack bc the stock injectors and FMU are only good until 8psi before the fuel cuts off. Also torque with a turbo will be a lot more than an N/A car. With the AFC hack he can run up to 12psi, vtccivic used to and ran low 14's with 100mph traps. Just run about 6-7psi daily and 12psi at the track. D16 rods are toothpicks!
Also top end may not be great with a GReddy kit, but it spools up fast. He can always open up top end with a 3" dp and exhaust.

I know guys that run 12 psi daily. I seen the d16 take 15 psi on a stock block at the track, i'm not saying it's smart, nor do i do it, but d16 can take some boost, and yes, the rods are tooth pics, tend to break around 225-230 whp.
i have been running 5-6 daily and 10 psi at the street races... it is taken it fine so far... i have only a fmu and a custom maped ecu.... on a d15b7 10 psi......

VTC_boostless_Civic ran 12 psi for about a year, daily driver
I did it for about 4 months, w/ no problems...the d16 is a pretty strong motor, you guys who are scared to turn up the boost will be pretty surprised. just step it up slowly by slowly, and before you know it, 12psi is in your reach...TUNING is KEY. i was on VAFC hack btw.

hahaha... whoops, i never thought to search "d-series"
using vafc with boost control on odb2 is equivalent as using hondata on odb1?
im a bit confused as yunning wise to achieve hirger boost with lower risks.

liam has boosted 15-16psi in his many D16's, never failed because of overboost (oil starvation and a blown vacuum line oWned his motors
)
I think MattT3/T4 has boosted over 1bar regularly on a SOHC as well. Me personally I limited it at 12psi for the occasional race, granted I was very good to my car, didn't live in boost and wouldn't see more than 6psi for daily duties.
It's one thing to ask "how much can a motor handle?" and another to ask "how much can a motor handle every single day", in which case I'd keep the D16 limited to roughly 8psi if you want it to last a long time.
Mine was boosted for 35k miles (1 year) and upon taking it off, my compression is still 190-195-190-195

damn clutch's are beginning to **** me off though
Ditto...blew my ACT clutch before I had a chance to blow the motor. 9 PSI daily and 15 PSI once on accident
stock D16Y7 block.

To get those numbers with a Greddy you'll need to run a little more from what I've seen, mine was a T3/T04B....thought it was an E but turned out to be a B, now I have to buy a new turbo for the new motor

I have been running 12psi daily for the past YEAR on my stock ZC (9.5CR). They can take it. They just need to be tuned properly, and maintained.
I had to garge it now because the trannies input bearing is shot. Motor however is still in great shape....

I've got a d16z6 and im around 8psi. Im on the afc hack, and the engine holds up fine. I beat the car about two times a week for about 2 months now and it's still fine. The only thing is the stock clutch goes by pretty fast.
