i need info on a/f gauges
hey guys..i just talked to my friend about possibly buying an autometer a/f gauge. he said i found a decent price for one but advised me the gauge is really not necessary. he said the a/f will be read thru the stock 02 sensor, which can only read certain amount of readinsg..and in the end, the a/f gauge will not really tell u ANYTHING REAL USEFUL. only way to read a true a/f reading is through i guess a wideband type of thing? which im not too familiar with..
can anyone fill me in on their personal opinions/experiences with a/f gauges
AND if u guys do suggest getting an a/f gauge, how does the autometer one do? i know autometer gauges arent too accurate (especially the boost ga i had for my SC) but i realized the a/f gauge has a different set up..well, ANY suggestions/opinions will be appreciated..
(btw-i will probably use a Hondata and my buddy said if i go that route, all i really need is a boost ga and maybe an egt gauge)

pinball machine lights....they suck!...that's all you need to know!
get a wide band setup with a proper digital readout if you want to know the real condition of your fuel.

Send me $50 and I'll tell you absolutely nothing (just like the a/f gauges that use the stock sensor).
I probably wont impress your friends though.

yeah the autometer a/f gauge's are pretty poopy. and they're way annoying to look at.
IMO, not really worth it...
an EGT is another option, although a little bit more pricey... but helps you keep an eye on how things are doing.
and a wideband is soooper, but it's very pricey.

if you are interested in a wideband, go here for details on one: http://www.techedge.com.au
one can be had for $200-300 including the sensor, control box, and display.
otherwise as mentioned above, an egt gauge is an alternative, although not quite as useful as a wideband in an a/f sense. it measures exhaust gas temp. what made you think you need an a/f guage in the first place? do you have forced induction or anything?

yes..im doing a custom set up and im slowly saving up for parts i want..i have everything except for the hondata..but i didnt wanna get the gauges until later and i was curious about the a/f gauge's usefulness.
so if u get an EGT ga, a a/f wideband isnt REALLY necessary? one or the other basically?
and ill read up on the wideband

egt can tell you a lot of things, including how rich/lean youre running, but obviously not as well as a wideband. i was thinking about an EGT too, just so i can use it as a tool to see how rich/lean i was and to know when it let off the gas before stuff melts.

search does help a lot..if u are looking to BUY an a/f gauge. i couldnt find a thread with the info i want. my good buddy told me some info but his dumbass usually leaves out a bunch of important info.
i forgot to mention....i'm getting a wideband AS WELL AS an egt, just because i like to know exactly whats happening to my motor. i feel it is worth the extra money. as stated above, the wideband-egt battle is a common one, and a search will reveal a lot about it.
good luck
