Pistons & Rods on H22A
I have a question i have JE pistons and crower rods that im installing on my car and then in a couple of months im gettin a turbo with about 12psi or 15 psi during the time that i dont have the turbo is my car going to run not that great cuz of the 9-1 ratio from the new pistons and rods?
you will probley feel a little loss, from what i hear. but it being rebuilt should help out, so the plus and loss will prob almost cancel each other out, imo. where about in atl are you located? im in gwinnett.
you did get your block sleeved, right!?

damn, did you buy the pistons yet? do a search on if sleeves are ness. for forged pistons and see what you find, i will explain more tomarrow, im tired

If you don't have the money to spend on sleeving, Contact Swain Tech. They will coat your pistons and you can just drop them in with the rods. I believe the cost is $18 per piston, but make sure you tell them you have FRM lined sleeves and need the pistons to not scar them.
Yikes! Have a look at the forced induction forum on this site.. Read as MUCH AS YOU CAN about turbos and specifically turboing the H22A, or you could be in a world of hurt..
So are you saying that he could use forged pistons with the factory nikasil sleeves once he gets them coated by Swain Tech? If that's so how long does the coating last?
Here we go again with the sleeves. Trust me dude, you're going to need sleeves with forged pistons. Although the H23's come with a lower compression pistons then the H22's (what are they like 9.5:1 or 9:1). But there's no way you can boost 12 or 15psi with stock pistons.
wow, i didnt know a company already came out with a coating for the h22 pistons... I was thinking the exact same thing too... I wanted to run forged internals without resleeving but i thought it wasnt possible...hahaha...u just made my day

You could coat, but I would be very worried about that...
I would talk with Swain Tech first. I've heard of people doing this and getting good results, but the argument still remains on how long will it last. Swain says the coating expands with the piston to keep it from cracking. If you are only wanting to run 9-12 lbs of boost, this is probably a good way to go about it. I would think that the stock rods should be fine for this setup also. The H22a's one weak spot is the rings. If we had forged pistons I have no doubt that 12psi is possible with good tuning.
Can u explain what is sleeved?
Thank you.
Aren't all of the JE pistons over-sized (bigger than 87mm)? What would a coating do if they physically don't fit in?

no there not, in fact thats why i have a set for sale. they are standard bore, and i decided to go over bore, and i didnt want to wait a month for custom ones. im in the atl area also, what exact part are you from?
