I got this old Bieffe back from the late eighties and was wondering if it's still any good? I heard helmets that old are pretty much useless because the protective stuff inside might not be as effective anymore. How long should a helmet be used even if it's in good shape?

 

Helmets are supposed to be used 4 to 5 years and then discarded.

They also say if you drop your helmet (from like 2 or more feet) you should also chuck it...

 

If you use it for track events (well in drag racing.. mabye moto as well) the Snell certification cannot be older than a specific year (I've heard different years like '90 & '91.. it might depend on track rules) The date can be found on the back or inside the helmet. If you drop the helmet you can send it back to the manufacturer to get it checked out (some charge a fee). And just to let you know, if you're superstitious, dropping a helmet is considered bad luck.
