Car Alarm has no sound
Hi guys, the siren on my car alarm recently stopped working. the remote still works to control the lock/unlock of my doors. so is it the siren that's bad or is it a bad fuse? Thanks for any help you could offer.
its probably a bad siren.. or a bad connection.. check the connections.. from the alarm brain to the siren... if all is good w/ the wiring.. then replace the siren its only like $25 or so for a DEI 6 tone...
is the car in valet mode? can you hold down the panic button and have the siren go off?? what kind of alarm is it? need more details, the siren may have gone bad it happens but they are cheap to replace..
no, the car is not in valet mode. when you hold on to it, the alarm doesn't sound off. it's a viper alarm, i think it's the 500 model. it's about 5-6 years old. i haven't had a chance to look at the wiring yet, i hope i'll be able to check it out after work today.
heres some help. if its a viper alarm. heres the trick. open the door and then hit button one then button two and then button one again. and then close the door. this should take it out of valet mode. viper alarms do not let the siren go off if you hold the valet switch down. this is definitely your problem if the remote still lets the door lock and unlock.
hope this helps.

look at the led...is it solid or does it flash..if solid its in valet mode..if its flashs like normal check the siren to make sure that ground and power are okay...sometimes the siren can fail if from water or heat damage...you had if for 5-6 years its time for a new siren...the warranty is limited lifetime ( ie about 5 years) if you can afford it i would spend a few bucks and replace it with a new version of the same alarm..kinda plug and play really. As much as we hate to admit it there is a life span for electronics.
i tried EvoTeg325's suggestion, and the siren still doesn't work. the alarm is not in valet mode. the wiring looks ok, so i'm guessing its the siren then. anyone else have any other ideas? i bought it from circuit city, and i'm going to check with them about what the warranty is. how much does a new siren go for anyways? thanks for all the help.
im pretty sure if you bought it from circuit city that they will check it for free. now whatevers wrong with it they will charge you. i could be wrong
circuit city will look at it.. the siren is not part of the lifetime warranty that comes w/ dei alarms.. only part that is warrantied is the alarm brain itsself.. sirens are 20 bux and for them it install it should not be more than 10-20 bux or you do it yourself..
siren's are like $20... have CC check it out and if its confirmed its the siren you can buy and replace it yourself.. I'm sure you can solder 2 wires (+ and -)... I had to replace the siren on my friends car.. pretty simple and straight forward..
