Default Engine assembly question, JE rings.

Okay, now that i've got you in here. I have a question for you guys that have built your own motors.

I just got a set of JE pistons and when I went to file the rings, the top rings were perfect, but the 2nd rings, the iron ones, were gapped at about .018, and the max gap i needed for my application was .0060. I spoke to my supplier and he is going to try to get me another set with the quickness. But has anyone else had this issue also?

I mean i never filed one ring and they were too big, WTF?
Thanks.

have you double checked the diameter of the cylinder? maybe that is too big and the rings are right.

that is an excelent observation, but the pistons seem to fit perfectly.

I even took the wax/oil/whatever off the inside of the cylinderwall from the machinist.

I will investigate further, actually this is the 2nd time this has happened with a motor using JE pistons at this machine shop.

Je is sending me another set of rings right now.

I've gotten the wrong rings from JE before but .006 seems a little tight for most Honda applications. Am I reading you wrong?

.006" does seem pretty tight, are you sure about that measurement?

These are the instructions that come with most JE piston/ring kits. Note that it says .006" for each inch of bore.

his application is a 12.5:1 compression b18c1 bored .020", so a 3.209" bore. its gonna stay n/a, but be street driven. i dont know what the hell hes doin right now, so i went ahead and posted this. yeah i think his calculations are actually wrong. thats not like him...... he needs a .0160" gap on the top ring, .0144" gap on the second ring, and a .015" gap on the oil ring. hmmm.....

I would go .016" on the top ring and .012" on the second ring on that setup.

I would not use total seal. Just my personal experience.
