HI AMP Alternator
Well my alternator just took a crap on me.
I figure since im changing it, are there any HI AMP alternators available for my car
( 1.6 sohc)?
Has anyone got one?
Where did u get it?
How much?
Anyone in NORCAL have em in stock?
I tried to search but didnt come up with much.
Also on ebay theres an ad for 135 amp alt for $179.

Any opinions on these?
Thanks,

I don't know about where in the NorCal area, but here in Oregon, the local "auto electric" specialists can do custom wound alternators with about any amount of output you want. look in the yellow pages under "automotive electrical"
the standard crx alternator cannot be rewound into a higher output. I checked with every local alternator shop in the tampa florida area. The case is too small. There is another honda alt with a larger case which is rebuildable. I sent a spare crx si alternator off to http://www.mralternator.com to get a rewind. They had to send me a different alternator because the stock housing is too small.
The 135 amp rating is a cold rating, which means when your engine gets hot and the alternator gets hot it will put out less. I had my mralternator bench tested at ~150 amps at 2000rpms. So mine should actually be putting close to 135 amps at operating temperature.
His alternators come with a lifetime warranty. I know cause my aem pulley fried my hi output alt and he rebuilt it for free
They put out a little less than stock at idle, but put out max power at 2k rpm +
Dont know about the guys on ebay, never used them. Also there is a guy on http://www.termpro.com in the alternator/batteries section by the name of dominick irragi or something. I hear he is really good at making custom alternators.
Good luck.

Stock on the left, rewind on the right. Notice the second row of vent fins in the middle of the mr alternator is longer. There is a small gap between the windings and the case of the stock one. on the mr alternator there is almost no gap. It is noticeable larger, but will fit without removing the axle, or brake master cyl. I just found that out this weekend. Replaced it after having it rebuilt for free
