who runs without PS belt?
i stillhave mine but ive thought about it..
you drain basically all the fluid and just leave a little in there ... but idealy you should try and get a manual rack,

having no p/s sucks... i ran like that for a bit, but parallel parking was a pain in the ***!!
Now i keep a 12 mm wrench in my car, for whenever i need to take it off.

Just curious - how much difference does draining the fluid out make? I tried driving w/o the PS belt and it was undriveable, even at highway speeds. My handeling speed went

I actually think my handling improved when i removed my PS and i looped mr yack....curious for anyone who HAS EXPERIENCE THOUGH. Is a Manual rack easier or hjarder to turn at low speeds then a Power rack thats been bypassed (i.e. no power)
thanks

I've had my PS belt off for over 6 mos. I like the steering feel much better. I also have a 96 dx with no PS and it is much easier to turn when stopped. I will be swapping on a manual rack when sometime this winter.
I don't have power steering. My last car did, I enjoy the non-ps feel. If someone can't handle turning a 2200 lb car, they need a gym membership or some muscle therapy.

yea if you drain it it will mess the rack up , my friend did it in his civic and now looking for a new rack cuz its all fucked up . i just take my belt off
again- its a bad idea.
you CAN'T just remove the belt and expect to not have problems. you need to run a proper by pass of the lines so that the rack still gets fluid circulation.
Don't blame me when someday you are doing 95 mph and your steering wheel locks up

my cx model eg never had power steering and i dont miss it at all, but then again i have a manual rack. you should really switch to that if you arent gonna run it at all.
I've drained all the fluid and took the pump, belt, lines, etc. off........that was about 2 years ago. I have had no problems with anything as far as steering goes, and its not that hard, unless you have your front tires at 15psi......

i removed my powersteering completely.. i took out the pulley resevior and everything.. except when it came to that line i didn't know what to do so i cut it
my steering won't lock up eventually will it?

sorry- i didn't mean for that to be taken seriously... hence the

basically, the fluid is like oil- it needs the circulation to be 'circulated'. your rack will only get worn out... and if you notice any horsepower gain, its because you know you did something to the car.
1hp TOPS on a built car.

steering response is better, like less chance of like yanking hte wheel too hard, but parallel parking sucksss esp at schoool since i park in the streets so often
I removed everything related to the PS system except the power assisted rack. The lines were looped and a breather reservior was added to relieve fluid pressures. Turns as easily as a manual rack IMO.
