Default couple b16a questions...

Ok i plan on getting a crx in the next couple of months. Since i cant afford a turbo i think i'm going to build up a b16a over time. i did a search and didn't really find what i need so im makin this thread.

my first question is will i have to worry about detonation using 87 or 89 octane gas, running the stock compression. could i just retard the timeing or would i just have to stop being a cheap *** and get 93 octane?

second, if i went up to say 11:1 compression, about how much hp would that add? would it be better to go up to 11:1 or something higher since i wont be using a turbo?

btw incase ya cant tell i dont know too much about this stuff thanx

your post is very vague, just put in a stock b16a, tune it and take it from there.

sorry about that. how bout this... say i swapped in a stock b16a. if the first thing i did was put in higher compression pistons, like 11.1:1, and maybe eagle forged rods, then about how much hp would that add?

Umm you would probably want to do that before you swapped it, seeing as you took all the time to put it in your car, so you could just take it back out to put your pistons and rods in.

i wouldnt have the money for the b16, pistons and rods right away. so i'd get the b16 then i'd eventually get the pistons and rods...

nobody hates n00bs... just takes time to get **** answered..

just pistons wouldn't do much without proper tuning and intake and exhaust mods..

every setup varies..

why would you run 87 or 89 octane? what is premium in your area?
with more compression.. your gonna have to run premium.

thanx guys. ya i dont have a crx but i know a little about them (real little). id like to know some stuff about crx's before i spend a lot of money on one, then **** it up when i buy stuff for it.

so raising the compression alone wont raise the hp at all? i'm not sure of how much permium is around here, but i think regular is between 1.10 and 1.20

also, it seems like every crx has a b16. ive been thinking about maybe building up a maybe y8, then maybe saving up for a turbo since its not as expensive as the b16. what do you think?

Thats your call man YOU and only YOU should decide whats going to make you the most happy. Get what you are fimilar with and if you are not fimilar with it research the heck out of it before doing it so you know what you are getting into. Books, Web sites like this ect.. Really its all your call turbo'ing a honda if done right is not cheap (my accord has cost me 9k already and I still dont have a turbo and I am no where close to done) and a swap can be done for around about 3-4k depending on if you do it your self parts ect... Good luck to you and remember its your decision their are lots of SOHC fans due to price but just as many if not more DOHC fans around you make the call.

I've been doing some research, and im gonna get a **** load of books after christmas.

the thing is a b16 is more expensive to build up, but i would get more power out of it than a y8. or i could build the y8, take the money i saved from going with a d series motor over b, and put that towards a turbo, but i wouldnt make as much power and it would take a while to get the turbo...

btw, i would be doing the swap my self, with the help of my dad.

nipponmotors.com
importautosalvage.com

They get pulled all the time for b-series replacements.

I would reccomend the d16z6 over the Y8, even though the Y8 puts out more power, then z6 has a stronger bottom. Better for boostin.
