Default Question for those who have replaced an LSD

How long should it take to replace the LSD once the tranny case is off?

And how much should I be charged?

Nameless I know you can do it yourself... There's not too much too it.... I put one together and changed synchros in about an hour and a half... For just the LSD open up the casing... unbolt the actuator and reverse gear holder... Then pull out the mainshaft, countershaft, forks, and differential... Pull the bearings, shoot the diff.. off the final drive... install the LSD with new bearings and reassemble the tranny in the reverse order.... Just remember to Honda Bond the casing halves before you bolt them together.. Good Luck

wth? Is that after you took the tranny case off too? Or did they take it off the engine for you?

If it's a 94-95 your gonna have to set the pre-load and use shims. The 97+ tranny's can have the entire bearing replaced/reused. But, this isn't the case with the 94-95 models. The bearings for the 94-95 are tapered, as opposed to the 97+ which are box/square type bearings that require no pre-load.

The transmission shop did the entire job. Took the axles out and dropped the tranny, cracked it open and swapped differentials.

$40/hr * 8hrs = $320 + gasket + tranny oil + tax = $4xx (I rounded up)

I had it done 2 years ago when I first got my GSR and wasnt as mechanically inclined - not that Id volunteer to do it now either. So I think it was worth the money to avoid the headache. It was actually my second mod.
