In the 5th gen Prelude, the rear speakers have a small microphone in them. That little circuit board you see is used for the mic and the crossover for the speakers. The mic provides the feedback for the Acoustic Feedback System, or whatever that was called on the stock stereo. You can just remove the speakers, and you can remove the stock amp as well, as you won't be needing it with your aftermarket speakers. If you're not using an aftermarket amp for your new speakers, and you want to run them straight off the head unit, you can tap into the speaker wires before the stock amplifier. If you have any trouble or if you need any more help, send me an email, and I can send you a wiring diagram.

Help

I have a 98 Prelude, turns out one of my front door speakers is blown, yup I looked at it and the little speaker "paper" is torn . Now it sounds horrible.

Ehh, good excuse to replace them right!

I need to get some good speakers for the doors now. What type of speakers go in there (size) and what speakers would you recommend?

It should be 6 1/4! most sites claim they are 6 1/2, but if you actually measure the speakers, they are 6 1/4. I tried a 6 1/2 before and IT DOES NOT fit. It is difficult to find 6 1/4 speakers so instead, you need to go for smaller ones like 5 1/4

Yeah I tried to put two different 6.5s in my front doors but neither fit. They didn't fit because of depth and diameter. I used some 5.25s and I still had to dremel out the plastic behind the stock speakers to get them to fit depth wise. The thing that sucks about it is that I still use the stock deck and that all I had were coaxles so I still use the stock tweeters. Can't wait til I can get a deck tho the stock one is ****.
