Need some help with purchasing a prelude...
Ok guys here's the deal. I've found a 1993 prelude si. The motor has died. The crank pulley broke which advanced the timing all to hell and ended up really messing the head up. The seller said the machine shop quoted about $1600 to fix the head... I'm not really as concerned about the price the machine is asking.
The blue book is ~5k for the car with a working engine. I've emailed about pricing for a replacement block and head. I'm not interested in buying axles, mounts, ecu and all that. What would be a reasonable price for a motor with ~50-70k miles. I figure I'll just subtract that from the blue book and maybe a couple hundred more for the extra parts I'll probably have to buy. Do you think that would be a fair price? The paint isn't all that great and has a few scratches but I'll be repainting so I'm not terribly concerned with that. It's really clean on the inside. Anyhow if youhave some suggestions let me know.
BTW - my plan is just to resleeve the block, build it for turbo and buy a stock head to finish off the engine. Anyone see any flaws in that? I assume having GE resleeve the block and then building the engine slowly won't cause any trouble mating the new stock head to the engine?
Thanks alot,
Noel
EDIT : I'm thinking ~$3500 is fair?

3500 for a 93si with a busted block? No way man. I would be much more comfortable offering no higher than 3k flat. Good luck with that though, sounds like a decent plan.
I bought a 92 Prelude Si 4 Wheel Steering with 157K miles, paint in great condition, and interior is in near new condition. I picked it up for $1800.
The things that it needed was a new windsheild, new cat-back, new tires, and brakes.
I picked it up because I was going to change the exhaust system, brakes and tires anyways.
I got ALL the records for the car and a lifetime Free oil change for my car at the dealership.
Hope this helps.
Also, if you need an H23 swap..I am swapping out mine for an H22. I am going to be parting my H23 out soon. Let me know.
Good luck

Hmm well that's interesting. AndyD you have a PM for the engine swap. I still have yet to see the actual car in its current phase. I've seen it before, seller is a friend of mine. I think once I get to see it it will be ok.
What type of things should I be concerned about with the broken crank pulley? I'm assuming the head is shot to **** and needs all sorts of work. I figure buying another head will be ok.
The car does have all the records and what not. It also comes with the stock wheels + kosei racing senecas 17x7. I plan on selling those with tires for around $500. I'm sure there's someone in my area that would want them. Any other suggestions?

Honestly, I would not offer him more than $2500. $3500 is an ok deal....but if it does not run right now I say use that to your advantage. 93 Prelude Si's go for $4500 - $4700 around my area. I think $2500 is a good deal.
The thing to look out for is rust in the wheel wells. Particularly in the rear wheel wells. You don't really have to worry about the engine since you are really gonna rebuild/swap in a new one.
I don't know what car you had, or still have, but I was VERY impressed with the performance of the Si. A lot more than what I expected.
If you are looking to save money right now and get a competent engine I would just get another H23. But if you can afford an H22 I say get it. I can only imagine what the H22 feels like based on my experience with the H23. Has a lot of low end torque. That's what you feel most in everyday driving.
Hope this helps.
EDIT: Oh, you are going for a turbo setup. Then in that case the H23 is the choice.
