I've got the Greddy TD05-18G on my B18C1. I've still got the stock 10:1 pistons. I've got about 1000miles so far at 7.8psi..no problems in sight.

I don't have money for hondata or any special tuning:
not a good idea IMO.

I see. I thought it would be safe to run just the fmu with cam gear/fpr/vafc tuning. I guess no?

Cam gears=$200
FPR/Gauge=$100
VAFC=$300
FMU=$?

That's getting up there with Hondata.

Yeah. But the stuff i listed is the stuff i already have on my car from my n/a set up. Would it be safe to run around just tuning with that running 7psi and 10.3:01 compression?

high compression & boost can make some pretty usable power. but without good tuning it can be a ticking time bomb.
10.3:1 really isn't that bad though. usdm type R's have 10.6:1 and kids have gotten away with just running fmu's. and 7 psi should be too big of a problem.

but if longetivity & reliability is important, then hondata & tuning should be what you're looking for.

just my .02
