Default I'm a fool, bounced a curb. Please help

Hey all, I was taking a corner today, hit some ice and slammed into a curb with my passenger steelie. The steelie is pretty bent, which isn't a problem, but I think I messed up my rack n pinion. When driving in a straight line the steering wheel is no longer at 12 o'clock but bounces around 1:05 - 1:07. Also when I accelerate I hear a real fast clicking noise (dont think its coming from my CV which was already in pretty bad shape). When taking corners the wheel wants to keep continuing in the direction that I was conerning and I have to pull it back straight. I took off the wheels to see if anything looked bent up, but visually everything looks ok.

So what do you guys think I broke now and how much/how hard do you think its going to be to fix it.

.... I'm picking up a 88 hatch DX today that I'm using the hood and fender off. Are the parts (whatever I just broke) interchangable with my 91 DX.

Will the car woes ever end ... I dont got the money for this

thanks, and pls help.

later
Joe

if its pulling to one side, theres a few things it could probably be, but first thing, check your balljoints

He he, I was riding with a kid 2 weeks ago. He tried to drift his 240, unfortunaltly we were going alittle fast. Biffed a curb, bent his front lower control arm about 15* up and back. I'll try to get a pick.

Best bet is to replace the most fragile parts first until it goes semi straight, or everything, then get an alignment.

How hard was the hit?? I'm sure you'll need to replace a control arm, ball joints.... Hopefully its not a beam

Hit felt pretty damn hard, but I'm not really sure. I was only going about 10 at the most. I dunno, really wasn't paying attention to my speed. Didn't send me up over the curb though. Busted my knee on the tilt steering and hurts like a bitch.

Is there anyway of knowing these need replaced. Everythink "looks" ok. The steering still feels a lil different, but doesn't keep going in the direction of the turn anymore. Wheel sits at 1 o'clock and shakes pretty bad.

i did that to my 89 civic lx. The steering column mount that goes to the control arm was bent and the control arm was shot and i had to get a new one. Buy a new control arm and straighten out your column and call it a day

ya, thats what I'm guessing. When I hit the curb I heard a loud pop (bang) from like right in front of me (lil center maybe). Didn't hear anything from passenger side.

Are the steering parts from the 88 DX the same as the 91? I sure hope..

I'm parting out this 88 DX if anyone wants anything. Really dont know what I have to offer cuz I'll prolly be using a lot of stuff to better my 91. CVs on the 88 are different # of splines then the 91 aren't they?

BTW.. how hard would it be to swap headliners.

same kinda thing happened to me just on tuesday. driving and hit a little bump in the road. steering wheel turned, but still going straight. i came to a stop light, and tried to go, but my driver side wheel tucked in. no control of the driver side front wheel at all. i was stuck in the middle of traffic. got it towed to a shop. found out that the bolt that connects the steering to the suspension. the lower arm, is it called the tie? i dont know. one of the scariest things ever, if id made it on the freeway which was a block away, i would have definitely spun out.

but the shop just replaced the bolt or replaced the entire part that connects the steering to the suspension, i didnt ask because the car was dropped off at my house. and i also got an alignment job.....had really bad camber and toe wear.

I am pretty sure that the 88 has 20 and your car has 21 splines
Also i am not to sure on what you plan on swaping from the 88 to the 91 but some stuff will deff not fit and other things will.....best of luck with getting your car fixed
