Default How to tell if my ECu is dead or not.

My car is neither making fire or pumping gaz. This said, when I put keys to ignition, the gas pump is making no noise. When i crank the car, there is no fire at the eng of the plug. I pulled the ecu out and the light on the ecu never blink. What do you think my problem is? The car is Prelude 88 si Dohc. BTW, the car stopped working 2 weeks ago, just after downshifting from 5 to 4th at 120kmh, the check engine light went on and the engine just stopped operation. No way to start it, either by compression or by cranking with ignition.

this exact thing happened to me last week, i was driving down the road and my car light went on and the engine turned off,i got it towed and all they found out was that the ecu fuses blew. I was pissed that i wasted 100 bucks getting my car towed for 2 5 doolar fuses. but atleast its fixed now.
Check the ecu fuses, i bet that is the problem, cuz when u say the light doent come on that sounds like there isnt even power going to it.

Is it posible that you broke your timing belt? That would account for no fire.( no turning of distributer) Worth a check.

While that would be a good thing to check, I'd hope that he would know if the timing belt broke!

It doesnt sound like your ECU is even getting power. If you unplugged your ECU and turned on the ignition, a ECU trouble light would come on i believe. (not sure about 88)

check your oil. pull your valve cover and check the timing belt. could be lots of things, but I hope it is neither of the two i just mentioned.

Timing belts can break at any time and be silent when they do break.

but the motor makes a distinct sound when you try to start it with a few valves open and not closing
