Did a search No luck... Can you guys give your expertise or head me into the right directions.
Hi guys,
I currently drive a teg right now and I'm looking into picking up a 1990 CRX SI the only reason why I chose this particular year and model is because in your pictures posts some1 had a nice black one and it was this year...
Well anyhow, the purpose of this car would be for daily driving and fully decked out for racing, track and drag. I already have a type r motor and i'm planning to drop that in, but i also read in one of the posts that you can;t do so because of the tranny. Can anyone point me to the right directions to read more about this?
Also, i also intend to strip the car down completely i.e removal of rear seats and passenger seats door panels ect. dash board if its possible and convert everything to digital using the apexi and aftermarket tachs. Is this possible?
And last but not least what type of 1/4 mile times should i expect if i drop a jdm b18c in the crx? and what will it be if i turboed it...
Thanks for your help, sorry if this sounds like a noob post, but i'm more well rounded w/ tegs...
TIA

you need to use a cable tranny instead of a hydo tranny. like a jdm ys1 (not usdm) would probably be geared most like the tranny you have (not sure exactly what it is though). i believe that you can use the hydo if you do a conversion (and i think you need a different tranny mount). i have never done this so of course i am not 100% sure...somebody needs to correct me if i am wrong. sorry i cant help more.
don't be afraid to drop that motor in, place racing makes a cable to hydro clutch conversion. hasport mount kits will work. you'll have to get an obd1 wire harness, a 90' int. clutch cable, throttle wire, shift linkage
GO FOR IT!

k u will expect at least to run 14.0 or 13.9 with a JDM Type R engine..... i have seen even a 93 SI HB full interior with a Typr R engine running 14.0.. if he managed to do that ... damn a CRX will fly over him.... anyhow.. dont be afraid to put the type R into the CRX... its no much diff from any other B engines.... get a B engine mount kit....if u wanna keep ur ITR tranny, i would get a converison from hasport.. nuttin will beat the right match of the tranny and engine combo...
u can strip anything u want.... just make a combo of digital gauges or Autometer gauges..... BTW crx's dont have rear seats
as for computer wise, u can have a PR3 or PWO chipped, u can get a Zdyne ecu, u can go OBDI and have a chipped P28.... anyhow u got plenty of choices

thx, but i'm quite dissapointed in the 1/4 mile time... i kinda of expected for it to be faster since the crx is very light... anyone has the curb weigth of teh car? and do you have any links that'll further my knowledge on this type of conversion? thx...

if you are very concern about speen then get yourself an 88 Si or HF. A few hundred pounds lighter than the 90 Si.
youre dissappointed in a guessed 1/4mi E.T.
i doubt anyone has the same car/motor/trans/clutch/tires, weighs the same as you, drives identical to you, and has raced at the track your closest to. the only way to tell is to build it and find out.

i have doen the search but no information has popped up.. maybe i;'m not typing the matching words?
thx for the replies everyone... but i guess what dissapointed me was that I was under the impression the crx is a VERY VERY VERY light weight car, and with a type r motor in it 1/4 mile times would be high 12's if not 11's, and some minor work done i.e cams, or say turbo the car would be 10's or 9's...
is this all realistic for teh crx? can some1 tell me the weight of the car? TIA

An 88 HF is going to be your best bet for a combination of minimal weight and ease of motor installation, ~1800 lbs. stock. Your aspirations of 9 sec. slips will be difficult to achieve, even more so if you want this thing to be street legal. A b18c5 may not be your best choice if you plan on completely rebuilding it for boost. I suggest setting realistic goals for a street machine and then determining what avenues will get you there.
try different combinations of words & phrases in different forums both archived and recent topics.
best of luck,
james
