Default If use a VTEC water pump and OIL pump

on a B20 with a ported P75 (LS) head, can I use a nonvtec timing belt or do I need a vtec timing belt?

Well if you have a VTEC water pump then you will have to run the VTEC t-belt... That's just how that works.. The oil pump doesn't matter... Just the water pump... VTEC water pump = VTEC t-belt.... non VTEC water pump = non VTEC t-belt... Latez

Thank you. I was thinking that perhaps the difference between the belts was the actual length maybe cause the VTEC head sat higher on the block than non-vtecs.

the VTEC pump has a bigger pinion gear, ie 22 teeth over 19 teeth...

dunno if the cams are higher or not...

why do you want to use a VTEC water pump?

It is my understanding that the VTEC water pumps flow more than nonVTEC water pumps. Thats why I want to run a VTEC water pump!

why would a water pump affect the timing belt?

different number of teeth just as tinkerbell said... non VTEC = 19 VTEC = 22... Therefore they use a different belt... There has been a lot of long discussions about this so i'm not goin to go into it... Latez

what engine for?

why is a higher flowing water pump better?

bigger is not better.

maybe you could fit a 3.5in exhaust? it would flow better?!?!?

Engine? A B20B making power till 9000rpm. And in the case of coolant, I believe that more circulation will yield better cooling.

making power to 9000rpm.

that is fine, you need the VTEC pump it is designed to reduce the coolant flow at higer RPM.

the B20 pump has a higher flow rate anyways, for high RPM cooling, you need a lower flow rate pump

t..

PS in the case off cooling, a faster flow rate will circulate the coolant too quickly for it to actually absorb the heat effiecntly!!

which will lead to overheating...

with a non-VTEC head use: non-VTEC water pump and non-VTEC timing belt

with VTEC head use: VTEC water pump and VTEC timing belt

with both setups you should use a VTEC oil pump assembly........i belive the belt tensioners are the same for VTEC and non........
