What do you think about the glass work on this item?

If you don't like this type of thing please no flaming, some people have different taste than others so remember that.

 

I've seen one a lot nicer than that on some caddy IMO the most pointless TV in the world right there. But the fiberglass is alright. I think you shoulda gone with a darker shade of glass like gray to match the wheel.

What do you mean a darker shade of glass? The part is painted to match the rest of the interior parts of the vehicle and the steering wheel itself is dark blue. Also what was better about the cadillac one? Besides I made this one myself

yeah, well thats tight. The pic kinda makes it look like the steering wheel is gray. That caddy had the original steering wheel w/ the leather coming right flush to the tv screen it was such a awesome job. But thats really good for homemade. How long you been working fiberglass...I need to learn how to fix friends body kit

 

I could do one with leather just like that no problem. It would actually be a little easier because the finish on the glass wouldn't have to be as smooth. This is what the kid wanted so thats what he got. We have sold quite a few of these units. What do you need to know about fiberglass? I have been doing it for a few years now. and we are doing CF parts now as well.

 

I dont know **** about fiberglass. His body kit has a gap between the headlamp and the kit so it isnt flush together, its about 1/4 inch wide. I just need to get that thing filled in (or whatever you call it)

 

Well that is because it is a crappy kit. The best thing to do is sand the area that needs to be filled in with some 80 grit paper. Just scuff up the surface really good with it but not far enough so that you go through. Then buy some Kitty Hair or Mar-Glass from an autobody shop. Then mix according to the directions and build up the area with the product. Once built up and partially cured about 45 minutes begin sanding with like 60-80 grit paper to get the shape you desire. Then after a few hours finish sanding with higher grit paper 150-200. You will be left with pinholes and such. Then use glazing putty from autobody store and apply thin coat on surface. Wait for it to dry then sand down with 200+ grit paper. You will see the red of the glazing putty left behind in the crevices and pin holes you had. Then primer and paint

Never said that it was safe. But neither is taking out your factory airbag to replace it with a racing steering wheel. I was upfront about flaming so if you don't like it then please don't post.

 

I have done custom installs for over 5 years, including fiberglass work, and you have my respect. I know how hard it is to get it to look that good. I know what you mean about the kids that want stuff, and if you don't do it they will just go ssomewhere else. We have a bunch of Navy guys here that always want the bLinG blIng and they have good credit, so they loc out their cavaliers up to the amx on their credit cards.

 

Haha thats exactly what we go through. People want to flame just because of what it is. They do not realize how many hours of work are involved in the product. I really appreciate your support.

 

You can't really go on a board, ask for people's opinions, but then request that they are all positive....then you really aren't getting true feedback.

That said, your customer is a moron for removing an airbag, and putting a TV in a steering wheel, and you do some very nice work....

dont get me wrong, the actuall fiberglass job is awesome, and the install looks very nice. But i can just see people wanting that in there SUV's and trying to watch a movie while talking on there phone and drinking coffee on the way to work

 

thats why you hook it up to work only when the parking brake is applied

looks like a pretty good job overall. kinda hard to tell the exact details without seeing it in person i guess.

the show scene never ceases to amaze me in terms of what kinda mods to do for the car.

Nice work on the glass.

My Dad own a body shop and I used to work there when I was a kid, so I know how much work fiberglass is to sand. It's like sanding cement

I believe it is illegal to remove a airbag from a car. I would be worrying about the liability issues your company could face if this kid is involved in an accident. Hope you covered that and your insurance is up to date.

Well just with any part that you sell most are for off-road use only and this is one of those parts.

 

The problem with this is most of these off road use only items are sold not installed by the retailer. You could be held liable for the install. Also I believe it is a Federal law that you are not allowed to tamper with airbags.

Just giving you a heads up I don't know all the deatails of the law. Just doesn't seem like it worth the liability. I would check with your insurance agent.
