OT: ITR-NC/we-todd-did-nc freeze it to the ground!!
Been a fun couple of days in the Triangle. Up to 1 inch of ice from the winter storm.
At the peak, 1.6 million NC/SC customers were without power. 550,000 of those were here in the Triangle. Several thousand also lost phone service. Three deaths have been reported (traffic accidents).
[edit] Sorry for the huge pics - no photochop at work and no internet at home
[/edit]
Typical scene driving around Cary:

Carnage at my apartment complex:

What I woke up to. Clear roads, but no power and trees down everywhere from the ice:

And finally what I arrived to at work (only to find out we weren't open at all
):

I'd take the Windy City's snow and bone chilling cold any day over Ice like that.
My family is all from connecticut and NY, and ice storms are pretty common.
Crazy stuff. Our office in RTP is closed, too.....

Ice = bad, bad stuff. I'll take 2 feet of snow any day over this crap.

A few more pics. I'll try to get some good tree shots later. No internet at home, so I won't be able to post again until tomorrow probably.
View down aptly-named Piney Plains Rd. Had just gotten power back in that area:

B0XY loaded down with at least a half-inch of ice. Took about 15 minutes to clear off.

Internet is back
Is fugged up around here. Out of the 12 apartments in my building, only four have power. Guess who's lucky enough to have the juice?
Amazingly enough, Time-Warner has also fixed their chit!
Calling for strong-ish winds tonight - not sure how long this is gonna last

Glad that shiet missed us here in GA. They were predicting gloom and doom ice but turns out we were a degree or two over freezing.
