What subwoofer setup for SQ???
I just want everyone's opinion on what would be the ideal setup for bass for SQ. I want a compromise between good SQ and low extended bass. What brands should i be looking at? Are two 12" subs a good setup? I am thinking two JL W6v2's at this stage.

well ive come to realize that 10" subs r more harmonic and 12'' subs r for deeper harder bass. i used to have 2 10" jlw0's even now i still think they have one of the best sound quality. but i needed more so now ive moved up to 2 12" diamond audio m6's. they hit much much harder but at lower levels they dont seem to sound as good. the sq is pretty good but i would honestly have to say that the jl's sounded better b4 hitting its max.
Yes 10s have smaller cone area, so therefore have quicker response. This results in tighter, punchier base. 12s however, with larger cone area will deeper at the expense of sound quality. Both can sound good when properly tuned, but in competition, most people prefer 10s over 12s for sound quality. Good Luck!
Physics dictates that a 10" cone must move faster then a 12" cone.
If we stick inside the realm of subbass (not midbass), a properly designed subwoofer will have a strong enough motor to control the larger, heavier cone on a 12" I know cars that did extremely well with 15" drivers for SQ, so I don't think that your theory holds true (one of these cars used 12" midbasses in ported enclosures), so don't tell me that you can only go sealed for SQ either....
If it was me...for the best price/sq/spl ratio, a single IDQ in a medium sized ported box can not be smote. If you want two...go for the pair. 12" box sizes range from 0.6 sealed (too small IMO, 0.85 is just right) to around 1.5 (just perfect) for ported. These are gross box volumes as well.
I've compared them to both the JL 12W0 and the 12W3V1...both JLs were boomier and required larger box sizes.....then again this is just my $0.02

I have a fosgate he2 10" in a ported box, and the only problem I have it is the lack of midbass. Techno - rap slam, but most rock songs I get very little bump.

You could have just answered my question like that
......sorry...I didn't mean to sound like I was jumping on you.....just that I hate to hear what originally sounded like the usual regurgitated info that runs around....big woofers are sloppy, you can only get SQ from sealed, ported boxes are sloppy..."dude JL and MB are the best!!!"....the usuals
Hey Rcurley do you remember that post on CSi that happened a while back. About the sub size where a couple people stated that alot of people that they know that do SQ comps actually said if they could do it over again (Mind you they were running 10"s and 12"s said they would have rather have had 15" or 18" subs. Maybe I am remembering wrong but I do remember something like that. See if you can dig that post up and post the info here.
But as for whats his name......
It just depends on what you get and what box type, amp, car and so on. Not just the sub you know. Any sub can be made to sound good but other subs excel in certain areas over others. But if I was to do something with SQ I would just throw in a couple of 12"s. But the thing about using a bigger SQ sub is the money issues with amps and such. You can always get the OZ Audio Delta amp. LMAO
If I had to choose a good SQ sub then I might would look into the Eclipse Titaniums if I want to spend the money on one. THe Eclipses tend to be a bit bright. Or if you want something cheap then get the IDQ. Just depends on what you want but I would probably just use 12" subs. Good compromise. Not to much size and weight but it does contain good SQ with a good amount of bass.
In the end just depends on what you want.

i agree that box and amp makes up the difference but i guess choosing the correct sub also plays an important role. i never really considered the PG's but i might have to audition some now. Also, what are peoples thoughts on the Alpine Type-R subs?
Or how about the IDMax's? i might be getting a 12" 4ohm version and using it in a sealed box.
What are peoples thoughts/experiences on those??
