Default B20 VTEC..or should I stay with my C5?!

Two years ago I swapped in a B18C5 into my 95 Civic Sedan..now I'm starting to see the pluses of going with a B20 Vtec. In fact, I was at my speed shop last night and we were looking at it..if I sell my C5 block and head, get myslef a b20 block, with a SiR head, send that out to Detroit to get it port and polished, put on some crower valve springs/retainers, pistons and rods, and upgrade my CAT cams..I could have a more powerfull car than I did with my Type-R swap..and still shift at 8,200rpm safely..
What do you guys think? Ideally, I'd like to get the most out of my C5, but if the costs come out that it's better to just go B20 Vtec..then I think that's what I might do.

More displacement will always have more power potential, but youll just have a plain old B20Vtec. No more B18C5 y0. I wouldnt go with crower though, seen and heard too much.

from what i have read on b20vtec.com, you might be better off just resleeving a ls block to 84.5.

Might cost a little more, but you will have a strong block.

I'd say to send off the B18C5 to be sleeved and roll with 84mm or so sleeves. Maybe even do the 95mm crank and the custom rods and pistons with it, or just get your Type R head done.

I know it's not on your option list, but have you thought about the H22A?

make import builders resleve and balance the c5 block to 84.5mm, honed and blueprinted block etc.. The sleeve on the b20 are the weeker of the b serie engine, therefore if you boost to much you will crack the sleeve. If you go boost, seel the R engine and built a ls/vtec with 84.5mm sleeve. If you stay N/A built the c5 with high cr piston and high lift cams like c spec or jun 3

i'm with this guy! The cracking sleeve problem on the factory b20 blocks is quite common. Golden Eagle will tell you that. Sleeve your b18c5 block and go 86mm--you might as well.

Why not sell your sedan, get a hatch and stick the C5 in that? That will do far more than a B20vtec will in your current car.

tell me how many sedans you see with a C5?

Now tell me how many HB's you see with a C5!? Plus. the cost and trouble of it is not worth..if i'd go that route..I'd sell the complete car.

Hatches are way bigger theft targets because most people have that same idea.

A friend of mine had a total sleeper stolen (see sig) and it was an EG. But I have never seen a Civic sedan or coupe get stolen, no matter what was under the hood. People just don't even think twice when they see it, whereas a hatch will get scrutinized, and if you have so much as an exhaust on it, it could be a target.

If I was to ever do a Honda swap it would not be a hatch. Coupes/sedans are safer and more practical anyway.

I believe tk can do it for you, he hold darton sleeve. At the same time have your head repolished and ported stage 3, is work is simply amazing. make shure to leave a little bit of sleeve in case something bad happen to the block, you dont have to resleve. I woulnt go pass 84.5mm. Has for the rest if you need help im d&d tuning on mtl racing, just pm me

you you ever want to sell your R engine, give me a sign, Im in a progress of building a solo 1 car. I will either need a stock R engine or to built a gsr/resleeve 84.5mm with a b16a head ported, wiseco 12.1 piston, eagle rod, skunk manifold, toda b etc...

Why not? If he's going to sleeve the block(if that is the plan), he can go that far. What's your problem with this???

The reason is due to weight. You don't see any sedans with C5s because they are heavier than the DC2R chassis.

You want to go fast and I was just presenting the most logical progression to this. Weight is your enemy, no matter what you do.

He's obviously doing it for originality reasons.

But safety from thieves is an added bonus.

Why swap in the R if you cant get the most out of it? Might as well do a gsr.
Safety from thieves may be a little better but i don't think theres a lot of difference.

I would keep the R and get higher comp pistons, and cams. You can put in ythe cams and upgrade the comp later, just dont expect mindblowing performance from a cam that is supposed to be used with high comp pistons, but you will still see results(Skunk stage 2 from experience)
