2 Questions: Oil & Brakes
I recently purchased a lady owned '98 prelude that needs just about every maintenence possible. While I save money to trick it out, I just want to make sure I treat it right. My questions are: 1. Is Mobil 1 oil recommended for the 2.2 engine? If so, what weight? Next, when I change the brake pads, since I've never owned a car with rear discs. I need to know. Is there any special procedure for changing them (ex. Does the front or rear need to be done first? Is there anything to avoid doing that will cause major damage?) Any suggestions would be nice.
5W-30 is recommended, but you can use 10W-30 if your temps don't go below 20 degrees F.
Nothing special about replacing pads, except the rear caliper pistons TURN in. The fronts can be pressed back in. BTW, OEM pads work very well and come with the proper grease and shims for original factory performance and quietness.
Also, given it's age and neglect... a full brake system fluid flush would be a good idea.

Ensure first that you are not leaking any oil before purchasing a synthetic brand such as Mobil.
