Default please ride safe

I posted this in the kills forum to try and help people. I'll post it here too, because it pertains mostly to motorcycle folk. Here goes:

This is just to let you know what happend. I didn't post about it when it happend, but about 2 months ago my brother was in a motorcycle wreck. He hadn't been on bigger bikes much (had only ridden things like 2 stroke 250's and whatnot) and had never even been near a big streetbike. He was up at a friends house, and saw they had a bike. It was an early 90's kawasaki ninja 900 (i believe it was a 900) Anyways, he asks if he can take it for a spin.

About 20 minutes later, his friend calls him so they can leave to go get his son. He's talking to her for a second then his phone cuts out. (Yes he had stopped to talk to her) she tries back and tries again because she needed to tell him something else. She finally gets ahold of him, and his voiced sounds paniced. He said that he was lying in a ditch, and he didn't know how he got there, and that he couldnt move at all. She lost him again when she was out driving and looking for him.

During the time after he had wrecked, he managed to call my mom (200 miles away) and tell her that he was fine and was coming home. My mom was somewhat confused by this, and thought he was just saying he'll be home this weekend.

When his friend got reception with her phone again, she immediately called 911. She was explaining the situation, and the emergency aid acted surprised. My brother was on the other line telling them where he was and what happend. (to this day that stumps the doctors as to how he did that) His friend kept looking and finally found him. The emergency crew was already there. The bike was too far gone to recognize. They took him to a local hospital (he was just out of tilamoock) then they lifeflighted him to emanual hospital (in portland oregon) When he got there, they immediately called my mom to tell her what had happend. The doctors said that they had it undercontrol, and that he would be ok. Mom immediately left.

When she got down there, they rushed her in to see him. He didnt look too bad, and it was obvious that his collar bone was smashed, but he was unconcious and not breathing on his own. My mom went and touched his hand, and she describes it as being "like icey glass." He was pretty much dead. He was in surgery for 8 hours straight.

The doctors and police say it looked like his body and the bike hit a brick wall going about 80 miles per hour. After talking to my brother, he admitted to me he remembers going somewhere around 120 or 130 then its just blank to him.

They ended up removing his spleen (rarely do this, but it was mutilated) And he had a few broken ribs. He had spinal cord damage, and cannot walk. He fractured 2 vertebra, and blew one completely out. His collar bone was smashed (as i said before) and his lungs were so badly bruised, they were almost of no use anymore.

My brother laid in the hospital for a month. When he got out he went to rehab. My brother has always been a "problem child" and this just made it worse. In rehab, he had no will to do anything anymore. They had him leave early, because he couldnt do anything.

Going into this accident, my brother was a very healthy 25 year old. He was kind of scrawny, but had lots of upper body strength and muscle. He doesnt anymore.

My brother is dying. He has no will to live anymore, and just lays in bed. He doesnt want to do anything, and his arms are honestly smaller than a pop can. He's just a skeleton with skin.

Just telling you this so you know that when you think something couldnt happen to you, it will.

I wanted to tell you all this so you know what it feels like. The next time you think you can do something, or you feel the need to race or go fast, i hope this sticks in your mind.

If this only gets to one person, and only saves one life, then it is definately worth the pain it gave me to write this.

Wow. Amazing story. I'm very sorry about your brother.
Thank you for the information. It has made a BIG impact on me. Just reading it makes me feel more careful. I don't ride, but I will soon. I think this will help me a lot. I appreciate your concern for the safety of the riders. Bless you and thank you again.

I'm sorry to hear about your brother, try to help him if you can. My father was in a similar crash. He was riding at night with a weak headlight and there was a trailer parked in the right lane of the road(with the front up-like a ramp). My dad ramped the trailer going 80 and flew in to the woods. His head hit a tree and the helmet spit in two. It did its job though. He cracked the bone in his leg in half, and had about 100 small rocks lodged in his head. His was knocked out but fine. It took them a week to get all the rocks out and they pinned his bone back togther. He will never touch another motorcycle and hates the fact I have one. All I can tell you is to try to help your brother get out and live life. I'm sorry to here about your story, Thats terrible. Got bless him. Ryan

feel sorry for your brother !! hope he will turn well

This is acutally what happened to my friend few months ago...

He was going around 180 Km/H then he lost control and hit one of those big wooden street lights.
He was very very lucky that he didn't hurt any of his body internals, all majorly injured was his legs... which it's still healing...

I mean, 180 KM/H is just OVER the line, Bike are made to be fast, and I know it's hard to contol not to drive it fast, but there is always a limit, and 180 Km/H is just way over the limit.
I personally don't drive a bike, and even i do, I would never go up to 180 Km/H in a BIKE on STREETS...

I hope everybody can THINK how you feel when you lose your best friend or relatives, then think back and don't drive THAT fast !! if you want to feel how fast the car can go, go to a track !!

Good Luck all bikers, DRIVE SAFE

Thats why people always say 600cc bikes can smoting you, liter bikes want to smoting you. I'm sorry for your brother but this story has happened too too many times. People trying to ride way above their abilities on a big bike.

i visited him yesterday, and brought his friend down also. that helped him alot. he's in a lot better spirits, and is gaining back his upper body strength. he still has a long way to go, but it looks like he's on track.

thank you all for the love and the prayers. i told him about the post, and he was amazed that someone you dont know can pull for you and feel for you as you all are.

i am in debt to you for you love and compassion. thank you
