Clutch for 425-475whp
I recently broke my clutchmaster stage 4 at the track. It was the the first time I ran 18+psi on it at teh track on slicks. I'm happy with how long it lasted but I'm wondering will another stage 4 just break again. This one never slipped. Next year I plan to go from 22" slicks to 24.5" and finish my sleeved block. So more punishment is to come. What clutch should I run for a 450+whp street car? Stage 5?
clutchmasters twin disc. i ran one for a year with no problems. so did jason(littlebluecrx). holds at least 600 hsp to the wheels and isn't that bad for daily driving.
Is it really needed to go with a twin disk for no more than 500whp? I talked with clutchmaster and they told me the stage 5 is race only and I should run a stage 4 again since I drive on the street also.
if a clutch is rated up to say 500, and you are making 500 do you think it will last all year? I learned this the hard way pay now or pay latter, when it comes to motors and drivetrain parts, go for over smoting. The twin disc from clutch master's or tilton will hold all you have, but also release between shifts way better than a single disc stiff pressure plate clutch. Saving your transmision can also save you money and races down the road. What till you start launching the car over time a lesser clutch is gonna start having problems releasing, and holding the power. They would know , but I dont know why it would wear out any faster than a stage 4.I would either consider stage 4 or rps turbo clutch then. Jason
Im running the clutchmaster twin disc on the street. Seems to be working fine so far for 570whp and it has held as much as 750 whp. The best part is the clutch is softer than stock.
i have an osg twin disc in my car now... i drive it everyday... iv had act clutches before... clutchmasters... and this clutch is by far my favorite... (even though i have it on a stock gsr motor

i broke both the act heavy duty @210whp
and the extreme let go with less than 300whp
i would recommend a tilton. i just got one and im in love.

I run the ACT extreme pressure plate with a stock gsr disk. Has held close to 400hp no probs. We will be taking the tranny off to install a quaife, we'll see what kinda shape the disc is in.
I haven't driven a honda with the RPS C/C twin disk, but a friend has one on a supra and it seems great really - give Chris @ http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com a call if you need a hookup on RPS clutches. Then there are always Tilton multi-disk clutches which are hard to beat. I would definately consider a twin disk clutch money well spent on a very high tq, very daily driven car. Compare a twin disk clutch to a single disk that is designed to hold as much power and the difference in engagement/feel/drivability is (almost without exception) very dramatic.

400 hp, 300 ft/lbs.....in my opinion.
for 550-600, go with the clutchmasters twin disc, or if you've got gordon mack money then go tilton. its the best you could get.

i really dont have the cash for a tilton or CM twin disk so i was hoping to find a good ACT cause they are generally more affordable. But i know you get what you pay for.
Hybrid901 what clutch are you running currently?

go with the tilton twin disc i have it in my car and havent had a problem yet and its streetable. i got over 500 to the wheels and have been to the track many times no problems. well sell them $1295 shipped
I think Greg S has some problems with this...not totally sure he was running a CM Twin tho. I have one, was told I needed to use AUTO Flywheel Bolts. Gonna try to find a way to safety wire them in or something. Don't wanna use a ton of Locktite.
