how many of you checked your timing after your JDM install?
i dont have easy access to a timing light (without buying one) and i was wondering if theres any chance that my b16 would need to be checked (can it change over time?). also, if it is common to be off, am i loosing any significant amount of power?
thanks
thanks
If the distributor has never ever been moved from factory then it's at 16 degrees and it's not goin to change unless the bolts have come loose and it has slipped... The only way to really check is with a timing gun... I got mine for like $100.. it's not the greatest but it has digtal advance and retard so i'm cool.. Peace
I was told that JDM motors are more advanced than ours because of the octane..so having it re-timed after install and a full tank of gas should increase performance and would result in better fuel consumption..
is that true?
is that true?
I'm sure they are within the standard 16 degrees +/-2 which is our spec too... I've never timed a JDM motor and assumed that it had never been moved even in Japan... Even if they do bump up the timing a few degrees I doubt it's enough to cause detonation decreasing performance on pump gas here in the states... If you at all worried, re-shoot your timing back to 16 +/-2... Peace
Even if ignition timing, via the distributor, is the same for US vs. JDM (16* +/-2*), are the timing maps in the ECU the same?

its about centered in the slot , get a friggen timing light and set it.
