Currently in need of a clutch badly. Just wondering what a good setup may be for a D series. Any suggestions?
I've heard of a street disc and stock pressure plate is a good setup for a mild clutch, not pushing a huge amount of power or anything, just want something better than stock at a good price.

 

I like my centerforce so far. Very expensive though. Lots of people say good things about clutchmasters and Exedy. (much cheaper)

yeah, Id go with a Centerforce Dual Friction, and whilst its off, Id go ahead and pull a flywheel, if you can swing it.

 

Im on my 2nd act xtss (xtreme pressure plate and hd disc). I got 30,000 miles out of my first with alot of hard turbocharged driving...including many trips to the drag strip. It finally went out...one of the springs in the disc (sprung disc) broke and was stuck between my flywheel (an expensive jun) and the pressure plate. The disc itself still had about 25-40% life left on it though....and the pressure plate was warpped (i hear act's have a tendence to do this). Although overall i loved the clutch...i do wish it lasted longer. I normally get 100,000 miles out of a stock clutch (i got 98,000 out of the first clutch, and 80,000 out of the 2nd clutch before i swapped to the act). But i guess you cant complain for the performance. Its super super smooth and never grabby. It will hold any power you can through at it though. The clutch peddle is pretty stiff...your leg gets a workout. You get used to it fast..its an awesome clutch.

Im not sure if they make it for the d-series motor, but you should take a look at the Clutchmasters Dual Carbon Disk Clutch & Flywheel. Its about $1300 but that includes a lightweight flywheel and a dual disc carbon setup. Its super super trick and holds more power and has a lighter clutch peddle pressure then just about anything else. I paid around $900 for my jun and act setup...so the clutchmasters isnt that much more. The cool thing about the clutch is you can replace the disc for $180 when it wears out. It has a steep startout cost, but after that...disc worn out $180 gets you a new one. pretty cool.

I have a friend that has a clutchnet 6puck sprung with a HD pressure plate on his civic (d-series turbo). I really dont like the clutch. Its super super super grabby..its impossible to slip it without making the whole car jerk. pucks on street cars isnt a great idea.

I had a Centerforce and wasn't impressed. I now have a ClutchMasters Stage 3 with the 7.5 or 8.5 lb flywheel and its great. Grabs for days. 20k on it and it feels just like it did after it was broken in, even though they say there is no break in period with their clutches. I could chirp 4th with my Kumho's, and 3rd hard with my Azenis. Good for daily driving, not chattery.

 

im using a clutchnet stage 2 i love this clutch its not chattery peddle pressure is a little hard but it helps control the way the clutch grabs and it does grab hard.

 

Using Action Clutch stage 1 KS(Kevlar) full disc... and CM flywheel.. shifts are super smooth and precise..good luck on a choice
